Hmmm, one does sound very negative re bike alarms. Pray tell, has one had problems of one's own with these security devices to make one sound such a miserable ladyparts?

 OK, OK, I fekkin lie. I know I/it will fekk up sooner than later and I am powerless/useless/apathetical enough not to be able to do fekk all about it until the big day comes. I have had prewarning demonstrations after parking under big transmitters like Holme Moss and that one on the hill above Kendal which made me shit but hey ho,

Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream
Merrily, merrily, merrily
Life is but a dream

So, should we all rush out and have our car alarms taken out? Not possible is it.

I knew that OB but ....

Its what version datatool and what bike It was connected to is what I was asking Bill .. first post dosnt say wether carb or EFI and it also dosent say which version of alarm it is... the second and third generation of the alarms altered a lot, the wiring went from colour coded to all black same as the Metas and they are a lot harder to reverse engineer ... but seeing as the the thread has gone the usual way my input dosnt matter, but you would have have known that anyway and anyone elses knowledge is irrelevant as usual ..c7u8

Ah but Barrie...

They are OE and it would increase the cost of insurance if removed.
For example I would not remove Hiss!

But on the other hand, HISS can be upgraded to HISS 2  at a cost of ?48+ from a Honda stealer, this consists of a metal bracket enclosing the ECU, fastened with a "one way" screw, and that's it!!:dunno: the saving on insurance = precisely fuck all!! :)-( as per usual with those robbing twats!!

and as most know, a "one way" screw can be filed in about 40 seconds and a screwdriver used to undo the screw, which in a way I suppose is why the insurance twats wont give any discount!!:bang::dunno:

I took a dataltool out of a 97 carb recently. Pretty easy to be fair. Find the alarm
Module which is probably under the seat somewhere. Disconnect battery. Trace the wiring out of the module. It will branch off in different directions. It will
obviously be attached to the loom and probably wrapped in black electrical tape. Slowly unwind the tape and you will uncover the joined / soldered (if you're lucky!) bits. Remove the alarm wiring and re-solder / comnect the original wiring back together. It's pretty simple, work in a methodical fashion but there's probably only about 4 connections in total. Took me about an hour to do the whole job. Couldn't wait to get shut of mine

+1 Took one off injection the same way...@tu*

I'm trying to think of the one I had fitted to my GT%%) many years back (it was a J reg bought new).

Neatest feature was the remote start , especially on a cold morning

So PTP, what did you decide? New fob battery or rip the whole thing out?
FWIW the alarm has been my prob of the year withe the Bird. Well, a few years perhaps given (bike) battery drain issues. Well pleased to have got shot of it after it killed another battery and this time immobilised the bike (alarm LED blown and unresponsive to OK key fob, ignition OK but no starter action). Alarm (S3, I think) 11 years old, fiited by first owner from the bike being new as an insurance requirement. Well chuffed to find Aviva don't worry about having an alarm fitted on bikes of such vintage these days... perhaps they've heard it attracts attention to a bike in your garage when you have the battery off for yet another charge / change... or the buga has just gone off spontaneously. Thanks to that nice Mr Jaws for diagnostics and advice on removal in my case, alarm failure of which seems to have been a cabling fault from the it being sat in a warm area (over the engine makes sense, yeah). :yo:

Well I finally got time off when the shops were still open yesterday & picked up a couple of batteries from Maplin.
Thatll fix the issue for now but I think I will still remove the alarm system pretty soon.
