I think she's managed to get one from Pete with a new tyre to be fitted there too. I'm sure she'll ba along to confirm soon. Well, as soon as you could reasonably expect from a female bluebird rider.
Ok...it was just a thought...

thanx lots for the offer hunny, but Lumpy is quite right. Have sorted one from Pete, so hopefully will be back on two wheels very soon.

Would have been along sooner, but fell asleep on the sofa!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oops!!!

Interestingly, the police lady I spoke to about the road (under instructions from my dad!!) said it wasnt something they had anything to do with. After quite a long conversation and pics shown of the road, she did say she'd fax the Council Highways office, and send a police car (with officers!!) to check the road.

Highways office - he said that he would send a surveyor out yesterday to check the pothole. However, they only fill in/mend the road within 24hrs if the hole is 100mm deep or more. Any less and it could take two weeks or so. I did ask him if a record of our conversation was being made, and the if the fact that I considered the hole in the road to be potentially lethal to bikes (specially smaller bikes and peds even though possibly less than 100mm) was being noted specifically. Because if I hear of an accident involving a bike there before the road is fixed I would want to be sure that it was known that there had been a complaint about the condition of the road and the council didn't think it was urgent enough to fix fast!! (I know - I can be right stroppy some times!!) The nice man did say that a record of the conversation was made, and that due to our conversation he would be sending a surveyor out immediately, but after that he had to rely on the surveyors report! Hey ho - I tried!!!

And the County Council has an Insurance Department - they don't deal with phone calls, you have to write in with your claim. So info being sent off tomorrow.

Thanx lots all for your help and support. :k :k :k :k :k

Well done smix, you know the drill, new fork seals (save the jaws ones you have put aside and get them buggers to pay for it) new discs and wheel plus tyre.

Truth is highways dept uses the percentage theory like many business's

if I don't do the job properly I will save shedloads of cash, weigh that up against the amount I pay out on insurance due to said job and viola, i'm in profit.

and smix, 03:05am? what you upto ya norty gurl?

Glad to hear that you're sorting the council out, well done that girl.:lick: From my experience they will try to ignor the fact... don't give up.

I thought only bunny and myself fell asleep on the sofa, not the young'uns. I won't feel so bad now.... bugger is when you do get to bed you can't sleep.

You have done the right thing reporting it Smix. Reminded me to report a drain cover right in the middle of a one way street in Southwark that has been left about 3 inches below the new road surface!

In my experience the councils do make at least temporary repairs fairly quickly, even if it is only splitting a sack of bitumen over the hole and reversing the lorry over it a few times!!c7u8

When my dad broke a wheel and suspension on his car cos of a pothole his local council reckoned its cheaper to pay out on claims than to fix the roads??? h1d1ng2 h1d1ng2

But - am trying tobe a bit sensible on the claim! at least the forks and head bearings are ok. Will be writing and posting claim later!

Wheel is now out (thanx lots to EriconBlackbird), collecting new one on Monday, so hopefully back on the road Tues/Weds :yo: - after some SERIOUS caliper cleaning has been done! And new pads sorted too!! c7u8

And I was only awake at stoopid o'clock cos I fell asleep on the sofa really early, and the football woke me up! Oops!!!

............. and I was going to keep quiet on that subjectbl4hbl4h

you hunny!! but on the basis that I think i'm going to spend a lot of time out there spraying with cleaner and brushing with a toothbrush, I may feel the need to whinge at some point!!! So best get it out in the open asap!!!!!!!

Have had a go already, decided that I needed to get the pads out altogether to get a bit better access to the pistons - you've guessed it - can't get the damn pins out!! Phone call coming on in the morning to get some help from a buddy up the road!! (I have sprayed with penetrating oil stuff, so possibly might be easier morrow!!!

Ah the pins, I didn't take those out did I! Well they certainly have to come out because you can't re-use those pads. Don't forget that I pushed the pistons in a small distance so you will need to bring them out in order to clear all that crud off them...........but be careful not to push them out too far.

Smix.. Sorry to hear about the wheel. Don't bother buying a lottery ticket this Month, eh.

I had a very slow off about three years ago when, in pouring rain my front wheel slipped into a groove in the tarmac ( surface had lifted above some old tram lines still in the ground) as I pulled away from traffic lights at a junction.
Wheel dropped into hole and twisted the bars out of my hand completely as I leaned over to go around a left hand bend.
I didn't damage the bike, but ripped the outside of my boot, tore my glove, and scraped my waterproofs.
I reported it as you have, argued they were aware of the hole as it had been previously reported by the local taxi firm. ( might be worth having a word with anyone living locally, see if they have complained)

After about a year the local council paid up in full from a slush fund they have for the cost of replacement.

Keep on at them. It wont then affect your insurance.

Good luck ( for once)
Murt.

Next step small claims court, I think it will cost you about ?30 but you can claim up to ?3000 I think the council will probably pay out rather than risk paying court fees on top, good luck :yo:
