Hi, Folks. I have been suffering with back pain for bloody months now.
Last Friday I took the Bird in for a 16000 mile service and MOT. There in the dealers was a 53 reg black/silver Fazer thou`. After a good look, I took it for a half hour test ride. O.K. It has`nt got the same grunt as the Blacky but it did seem easier to ride being more upright.
I have read a few bike mag reports and the Fazer gets some very good reviews.
My Bird is a year 2000 (W Reg) and the dealer is asking for ?1000 to change. (The fazer has a touring Scottoiler and a Datatool Evo 2 alarm).
I love everything about the Bird except for the backache it causes.
I really don`t know whether to swop or not.
What do you recon ???

Have you tried any mods? from what a lot of people have said bar risers could help.

The trouble is I`m 6`1" and already have a double bouble fitted. If I raise the bars I will probably end up over the screen in the wind blast again.

Previous owner of a Fazer thou myself, 53 plate bought from new. Only kept it for 3 months however, but only coz I preferred fully faired bikes. Fazer was a brilliant bike to ride, extremely comfortable and fast !

I say - go for it !

Back ache

Buy some V-tec bars, lots cheaper than ?1000 to swap to a Yam, or try someone elses bike on here, with them fitted. Then you will know for sure you are doing the right thing.

i have an ongoing back problem, (4 months laid up) and have the tall mra screen from pete and a set of his risers have done wonders for me ,

for ?100 or there abouts for both, from pete, it might be worth a try if you really want to keep the BIRD.

failing that, why not try some ones bike with the risers on.

also a mod using "BUELL" :neenaw: foot pegs is doing the rounds (IXXRA) and i think Rolfy has done this to his and it helps further, ( pegs work out at about ( 30)

just something to think abiout :dunno:

When I was having real probs with my neck I put a vario screen and some bar risers from 1200 Pete and they seem to be doing the job. Up around 140 last Sunday and no wind blast at all. The quicker you go the better it gets.
Not much in the way of complaints from the pillion department either!!

I got almost total relief from Spondylosis in the neck from changing my medication from an SP1 to a Blackbird, did the trick for me and as an added bonus my wrists are up to more tasks once I dismount !!

Do it. You'll enjoy it.

The Blackie is NOT the end of the universe, the Fazer is a good machine.

Good??????????????????? Bwahahahahahahahahaha........................it's the best bike in the ferkin WORLD (of course!) :} :} :}

Mr Piquet, two of us have made the swap and neither of us have gone or will be going back. It may well not have the grunt of the Blackie, but dependant of what sort of riding ya doing; personally (and having owned both I think I'm qualified to comment) it has more advantages than the Bird.

Fazer or Bird

Here's my bobs worth.
Just got rid of a Fazer Thou. to get the Bird,so now had both. The Bird to me any way, is a better bike.....If you have got to spend a ?1000 to change you will have to spend the same amount to sort the suspension out front and rear. The finish on the Bird is better as well. The Fazer can be made good but at what cost.
Zippo.

I sold a FZ-1 (Fazer 1000) for the Bird.

No comparison.

The buffeting on the FZ-1 drove me mad, despite trying different screens.

As someone else said, spend some money on new risers.

Is a lunp
test the fazer, ride it as you normally ride the bird, then give it some death, then get yer money out and buy it.

the fazer outhandles a stock bird, keeps up with it on gogo, has much better lights, is more comfortable, does better mpg, and looks better with a topbox than a bird does.

Next time you leave the house, make sure you log off your computer, that Sanchez guy has been using your computer and handle to post inaccurate and misleading information. man8um

And when are they going to fit decent fairing brackets to stop it sliding down, or is it supposed to look like that.
