A good friend/colleague was on the POA committee, he went to an executive meeting in London, he took a newly elected member with him, after a while of chatting to a guy he approached the new member & said “come on, we’re off for dinner & a few drinks” after the first round & during the meal the new member got up to buy a round, my friend said “sit down, he’s paying, the other guy was a newspaper reporter.
My friend took early voluntary redundancy but before his finish date he took gardening leave (not offered to the others who took the redundancy) he has never told me what he disclosed to the press but it certainly bought him some privileges.
