I have only just got my Blackbird, and only having had a bike license for a couple of years, I took it over to a mates for a ride. It really starts to move over 8k he says. Hmm!! Thought I. I think I need to rev it more. My ZZR was just low down and grunty.
Extending my thinking. What of cornering revs. What revs do you guys corner at as a general rule?

Funnily enough I expected that sort of reply, judging by some other replies I have read. Yes, I know how to ride and yes I know about counter steering. I was just interested. Perhaps it was a bit tricky for a sensible answer.

Or maybe just such a stupid question that shouldnt have been asked, and wasnt worth a sensible answer eh??:dunno: AS you expected!! happy now??:dunno:

I usually try and have it bouncing off the limiter on the apex unless I'm in 1st, as there is then a risk of it breaking away.

Lol. Not the Keith Code way, but I must try it. 8rfl@ Seriously though I am looking forward to many a blast on the roads around here regardless of revs.....just for the fun of it. Still, as it was raining I just went out on my Armstrong MT. Great fun. Just drop into bends. And round it goes!!!!

IAM advice is....

that you should corner with the bike's revs halfway between tickover and redline. They say this is so that you can either speed up easily or alternatively use engine breaking to slow down. Whilst this may not be necessary on a bike with the power of the bird it is certainly sound advice on a smaller bike like 600 or a 400. So I don't think the question was at all stupid from a Bbird newby! I was nearly wiped out on the M25 in 6th gear at 40mph on my Bbird. Only the fact that I was on a very powerful bike allowed me to shoot forward without having to change down a couple of cogs to where a lanechanging lorry could see me in his mirror. On a 600 I would have been squashed.

Yes, thanks. I joined the IAM earlier this year. You can never have enough training I don't think. The amount of riders, and drivers for that matter, who get their corner lines wrong.....let alone the revs, is frightening.

I did the IAM training about 10 years ago but didn't want the stress of taking the test. The training has stood me in good stead and has helped keep me safe. Still don't do a lifesaver though. No neck and a big helmet means I can see feck all over my shoulder anyway! I just watch the mirrors carefully to make sure I know who's where!:-0)

I think I will do the test at some point and not having had my test that long then I dont mind being observed. My first ride out they were impressed with my riding which was gratifying. Me and 4 chief and senior observes for a 3 hour ride.

What group was that Sc-em ?

Having any bike under proper control when entering any hazard situation is basic IAM riding under the IPSGA control system.
Yes generally at least 50% of rev range....

For fook sake the answer is simple,
Just set the throttle at 9,251rpm no more or no less, & just clutch in & brake or change up or down a gear or a combination of all, just keep a eye on your voltage make sure it is always above 12.8v as this is very important, please note if its wet never slow down keep the volts up & tyre temp warm.
If you need anymore riding tips just ask.
Question what is counter steer? & where can I buy it?
