CATALUNYA MOTO GP 2005

RHINO

Answering to nobody
I'm going to find out all relevent costs, times etc for a trip to CATALUNYA GP in 2005....... The date of the race is JUNE 12th so i'll be sorting out times from England to Spain very soon.
If anyone is interested in coming with us please drop me a PM or E-Mail or alternatively post on the thread..
Possible victims so far are
1) Myself & Emma
2) SHAUN R1
3) CHUNKY MONKEY
4) TAZZ
5) Silverone
Any further please let me know so i can start and work some prices out :yo:

The trip will consist of ferry from PLYMOUTH----SANTANDER (i think its 20hrs)
then a good tour of some superb roads which are a combination of twisty, fast, technical and slow.. I did the run in 2000 and aint stopped grinning yet.
The race is on a Sunday as per usual and a trip into ANDORRA is a must on one of the days.
I was considering making a week or more out of it so its more relaxed and gives people time to venture into the awesome CATALUNYA countryside (and scare the shit out of the wildlife)
My brother PAUL who lives out there is already seeking activities for us should we want to have a go at QUAD BIKING in the Pyrenese or WINE TASTING in the evening. This is gonna be a BLINDING TRIP taken at YOUR OWN pace. A quantity of maps ALL the same will be ordered for those wishing to join us and that way everyone knows where we are going (appart from me). Meeting points will be made on the route for re gathering so no excuse for missing out on your individual piece of fun. Keep an eye on this post for updates (though the chances are it will be in the RIDEOUT scheduler section by then. R#? R#?

Sounds good to me - put myself and Jane in the interested section. Supposed to be spending a couple of days back in Jersey in September to look for somwhere to get married in May - could always be delayed until 2006 I suppose. Getting spliced that is, not the Catalunya run :} :}

If Jane ever gets a log on sorted out for this site, then I may have to come back and edit this post :h

It looks like

We have Fat Bert on the list again :xm .

The dates are difficult at the moment as Brittany Ferries haven't yet released the timetable for 2005.. As soon as i'm aware of it i shall be plotting my journey.

Myself and Emma are going via Santander on the 20hr ferry from Plymouth on Sunday 29th May 2005.
We looked at the route through France but it seems like we'll just be pushing it for 2 days to cover the ground, the ferry will cut out a load of rushing and give us time to enjoy the Basque country at its finest.
Yeh the ferry is expensive, coming in at ?414 for 2 people inc bike, cabin (return) but then when you weigh up the crossing to France + fuel+accomodation etc then it isn't such a bad deal. If there are people interested in the crossing with us then let me know asap and i will speak directly with Brittany Ferries to try and get a better deal.

The trip from Santander can easily be polished off in 6 hrs taking in some fantastic scenery on the many highlighted 'scenic routes' on the o/s map.
Once at our destination of Lleida we can then plan our days out into the mountains inc Andorra (tax free) and across the Pyrenese.

Hi Rhino
Would be interested in going, though I would have to meet you at Lleida, as I live in Malaga and would travel up to meet you.
Do you have accomadation arranged or would we do this. Keep me posted.
Paul & Trudi.

Graphite, we're in the middle of arranging accomodation, there's a few places near 'Bellpuig d Urgell' (where my brother lives) and its good for getting into the mountains from there too. I'll keep you posted as to whats what. John

One of the days out will consist of a very twisty mountain pass from Andorra in a loop over some of THE best terrain with spectacular views across mainland Spain. The route is marked on the O/S map as 'scenic'..

Grab a copy of 'MICHELIN' National 734 map..

The pink arrows show the route upto Andorra and for those brave enough, it shows the circuit out towards France and loops back clockwise over the mountain and eventually back down towards Lleida, the route is approx 200 miles give or take a few.

Mmmmm??it looks like a case of ?we?ll have to see you out there?. This is of course assuming that Karen and myself can actually get our act and enough dosh together to go.

I was thinking of travelling on the Wednesday (1st June) on the Santander route and returning on the 9th or 13th by the same route. For a host of reasons the plan at the moment is for me to head out on my own and for Karen to fly into Barcelona on the Friday/Saturday. We could then do the race weekend bit followed by a few days pottering back across to Santander via Andorra, Pamplona, Rioja, Bilbao and perhaps the Matienzo region (one of my favourite areas). I should state that this is the umpteenth iteration of our plan and will probably change.

We are currently preoccupied with having to live in a house with no bedrooms, ceilings or walls on the upper floor, planning anything apart from how to live in a constantly changing building site is a tad tuff at the moment!

Fodder, no problem at all Paul, we will have plenty of time to get some riding in together over there. I would think that there will be at least 3 good trips arranged during the time you'll be there, if sh'e flying in i might (not a promise) be able to arrange pick up from Barcelona. Obviously sooner you know the better for all.

Ok?sorted?money and time found, this is definitely a goer?..yafeckinhoo!

Unfortunately, Karen and I can?t quite tie in with your plans John but at least we are going to get there. Karen will arrive a couple of days after me but at least she will get there and enjoy the run back to the UK.

I?ll be sailing on the Plymouth/Santander ferry on Wednesday June 1st at 16.00 (Karen will fly in on Saturday 4th). We will both be getting the Santander/Portsmouth ferry back to the UK on Thursday June 9th at 15.30 after a leisurely run over a few days from Barcelona to Santander.

NOTE: The price for this return crossing is quoted at ?427 on the Brittany ferries web site. However, I took a look at http://www.ferrybooker.com and for some reason they are charging ?372.00????55 cheaper! I?ve not used these guys before, if anyone has it would be useful to know if they are OK before I book in the next couple of days.

Now to plan some runs????.

Paul, this is the first i've heard about the date being changed from the 5th to the 12th............... :xm , not very much notice given is it for an event of that size. It would appear to be correct and infact the date is now 12th June.

I'll make some enquiries during the week with the ferry company with regards to changing dates, sailings etc and also with the circuit to confirm.

Still kickin' it!
MotoGP Tickets?

Do individuals sort out their own tickets for the GP - or will it be a "pay-on-the-day" affair?

The tickets will be bought up front hopefully as it saves time on the day but if Paul (my brother) cannot arrange it then on the day is fine, unless of course you have a plan??

Not really a "plan"...

...because we haven't been able to find the tickets on sale anywhere, as yet.

The only "plan" is to come along with you guys, if that's OK?

We're definitely going so tell us when, and where, to send the dosh if you're handling the bookings, John!

I'm booking the Plymouth/Santander ferry for this at weekend. I'm going out a bit later than most I think i.e. Wednesday 8th. If anyone else is thinking of going on this sailing let me know. I'll be returning via the same ferry route on Thursday 18th.

The ferry only gets in late morning and I'll probably have a hangover so I'll be stopping overnight on the way over to Catalunya. Anyone know a good place to stop midway between Santander and Barcelona?

Cheers, Paul

P.S. Anyone know the best stands at the circuit?
