With this morning's announcement on the MET asking Sue Gray to be "careful" with her report it seems everything is following the script so far.

A Brucy Bonus is that those in the Firing line will know because their event in the Sue report will get only the lightest of mentions.

While on the subject of the MET and it's head honcho.

Will the coincidence that said head contract expires in 2024 have any impact in deliberations?

it would be wrong to pre-empt the outcome of a police enquiry. The police enquiry has to take precedence and not be compromised.

I cannot see conspiracy in that.

The Gray publication is caught between the rock and the hard place - everyone wants it published yesterday (although it seems many have made their minds up without it) but they want it to contain every last detail that could compromise the police enquiry.

Gone are the days of ‘balanced approach’,…..

A number of legal opinions have already been given pointing out that firstly its OK to publish whatever you want up until the point someone has been charged - that's been confirmed by journalists as how they are required to operate.

The police constantly carry out investigations which never go any further.

Secondly you can only cause a problem if the report might compromise a court case.

A court case is not possible for breaking the covid regulations - its a summary offence with police imposed fine.
There is also no formal appeals process against the imposition of a covid breach fine.

Edited to add:

The only possible court actions which could arise for those being investigated seem to be either perverting the course of justice or malfeasance in public office.

Both of those would be bombshell conclusions way beyond anything so far.

Sue Gray is expected to deliver her report on No 10 parties to the PM without waiting for the police inquiry to conclude, the BBC has been told.
The senior civil servant is set to hand her report to Downing Street shortly - though no exact date has been given.
But police have asked for "minimal reference" to be made to events they are looking at, in order to "avoid any prejudice to our investigation".

Yep, read that too - just because the police say something doesnt mean they are right or even legally right.

Even more unlikely when I understand their investigation is being conducted at the best speed they can manage - by writing to everyone!!

:)

and no, I'm not into a conspiracy theory as such. I just think the politicians are being dishonest and the police incompetent

And I prefer to await the outcome rather than jumping on the back of the frenzied rabid pack who have already made their minds up:sisi3:

Not saying that I know what has happened - I know as much as pretty much everyone else, just not prejudging.

Out of all the people conducting the enquiry, including the Police, I wonder how many can put their hand on their heart & say they haven’t broken any covid rules. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Most public seem to think the Police work for our best interests but unfortunately once politics becomes involved they seem to actually work for those in government as evidenced by the original refusal to investigate the matter until put under huge public an political pressure

My opinion is that police will find no laws were broken and no action should be taken despite the clear evidence to the contrary
IMO the Sue Grey report should not be made public until the police investigation (such as it is) has been made public as once again that is a political endeavour that should not take preference over a criminal investigation (under the laws in place at the time)

That's not the point. We expect our leaders to lead by example, not set the rules and then ignore them.

We don’t always get what we expect, I’ve known people sacked by managers for doing exact same things managers are guilty of, the World s full of hypocrites.
