Bloody cyclists (again)

At the end of the day "racing" is illegal on Britain's roads, you can dress it up as "time trials" or anything else, but it is still "racing" end of, and as has been mentioned (probably by the person least qualified in that he is as bad wiv orses) they expect 99% of the right of way and actually don't contribute to the pleasure that we all should enjoy, for every "cyclist" on this type of forum you get dozens of "anti" cyclists, I just have to ask myself why this would be if everyone was so blame free?? :dunno: cyclists don't do themselves any favours with their arrogant attitudes, fair enough one or two don't but I've seen it today when the mob of them decide to ignore traffic lights everyone else has to stop!! why?? :dunno:

We MTB ers have a saying round here, that the Roadies "shave their legs and vaginas" Never have I seen such a bunch of arrogant wankers.....

Thankfully a big cycle event round here has been cancelled due to public outcry, certain persons last year lobbing a load of tacks in the road at various points, causing lots of loud back when 200 psi tyres hit them.

They tried the income we generate ploy, and it was laughed at by the local people shops etc, victory!

Has not put the weekend heroes off yet though.........

Perhaps the same people will soon be putting wires across roads to "encourage" motorbikes to stay away to?

Until recently I lived on a cycle event route for 25 years & in the last 6 or 7 years it was held 3 times a year

Maybe its a different setup ooop north but here traveling marshals on real bikes stopped the traffic for the minute or two while the men in tights went by & that was that ..... don't see a problem :dunno:

So thats acceptable behaviour is it? The consequences don't bear thinking about. It just makes the locals as bad as the roadies that you seem to despise.

I could argue that MTBers are just as bad as they get in the way of people enjoying the countryside. I assume you stick to bridleways and don't ride on footpaths.

The routes they 'used' were the 2 main trunk routes into North Wales, the A5104 and the A5, no diversions for HGV's, roads closed for up to 4 hours at a time with folks stuck on their own drive ways, and yes the roadies round here I would say 70% think they own the road, we even had on the odd occasion a peloton from a club who travel with a motorbike who will deliberatly stop any motorist trying to overtake. The list goes on..........

I stick to trail centres and bridleways actually, no I dont ride on footpaths, there are more than enough legal rights of way in North Wales to keep me happy.

As for the tacks, I dont give a shit what others did to sabotage that event, but it shows the ill feelinbg that people had, to make them go to those lengths.

The roadies turn up at my local trail centre, they do cause much mirth amongst the MTB er's with their outfits, Oakleys wedged upside down in their helmets etc......

Oh and Robbo is right, racing is illegal on public roads, hence this was called a cycle 'event' but it was timed, so a 'race' another nail in the coffin for them.....

The problem is I will be prevented from tending to my livestock for a large part of the day, maybe I'll say "fuck it" & just drive through anyway, anyone tries to stop me I'll chuck carrots at them.

Well that's not right & I don't see a need for road closures for any length of time it only takes a couple of minutes for them to pass unless they are going round & round in a circle ?

do they inspect the course & have you got a muck spreader :-0)

Seems to be a whole lot of hysterical over reaction to a slight inconvenience if you ask me:whi5tl:

thousands of roads closed every year at some point due to various reasons: road works, traffic accidents, flooding, water leaks, gas leaks, building fires, fallen trees, parades, heavy/abnormal loads, suicide attempts and various sporting events etc.

Where is that old Dunkirk spirit when we can't even work our way round a planned temporarily closed road:dunno:

The roads will probably be closed until the last one is through, bearing in mind the event will be well under way when it gets to us this could be a hell of a long time, pity I haven't still got my 7.5 ton horsebox, I'd park it on the road (legally) the night before & leave it there till after the event.

Usually a road closure is an inconvenience because you have to rake a detour to get to your destination, in this case, there is no detour as the road is closed from both ends.
We have to get 125l water to our horses every day, we have to check the pregnant mares twice a day.
This is more than an inconvenience, I will do what I have to do to get to my horses, they are more important than a poxy cycling event.

Derek, FFS sh1tehppns speak to the organisers, explain your predicerment. They need local support so they should be amenable. I'm sure they will allow you limited access. Now put your Lycra suit on and enjoy.

Haven't a clue who the organisers are, they should have planned the route so as not to cause road closures, it wouldn't be so bad if they allowed traffic one way, then we could make a detour, it would be an inconvenience but at least we could get to our horses.

As much as I hate to, I have to agree with Derek  up here they do in fact close roads for hours on end, seemingly for no reason, but in fact they are putting straw bales, plastic crash pads out ETC, then they have to take them all back up again, the Lycra lovelies take moments to flash past, it's the clearing up before any proper traffic can use the road again that takes the time!! the twats actually stopped an ambulance getting to a pregnant woman last year, THAT was kept quite!! all for the sake of "the local economy" and "the cash it brings in," in fact the only people to benefit were a few land owners that turned a field or two into camp sites and B&B's all the local shops were actually down on takings as they lost out on passing trade, no more cash has been generated since either due to the lovelies travelling to the area to "ride the route" the Tour took, and going home again at the end of the day, they certainly are not the weekend push roddist that takes a leisurely ride and a "stop at a nice little cafe on the way", these tend to be hard core twats!! so no one profits in the end!! and people like Derek are rightly pissed off that their opinions and needs aren't taken into consideration.

gawd how I hate to agree wiv an orse owner!!

Why don't you get a tent and camp in the field with your horses? Do two water trips in the same day so they have water on the day of the event.

If you look at the publicity for the event the organiser's name should be on there, or alternatively contact the council/police (or whomever has granted permission to close the road) and arrange to have access.

Sometimes DK, you would drive a person to distraction

Robbo I travelled up last year to watch a stage of the tour. I needed fuel, food and drink which I bought while I was in locally. That was extra money for the went into the local economy. As you're aware there were thousands that did the same, and for sure unless they had the misfortune to meet any northern blackbird owners, they'll return for long and short breaks. That how the economy benefits, long term.
DK if you look on the lampposts, telegraph poles and the like, you'll see details of planing permission granted. Which must be post in a prominent place.

Why the fuck should I camp out for the sake of inconsiderate fucking cyclists when I've got a perfectly good house three miles away?

There are only electronic boards advertising the event, no details of organisers.

Like the police or council can give a fuck.
