Bloody cyclists (again)

In two weeks time there is a cycling event called "Tour de Yorkshire" (how fucking original) I wouldn't have a problem with this if it was up in the moors but part of it is on the route where we go to our horses, meaning that roads which we pay tax to use & need to use will be closed to facilitate a non road tax paying useless event for a bunch of inconsiderate road hogs.
What right do they have to close essential roads?

We don't ride ours on the road, too many mad motorists, but since you asked, horsebox tax ?165, insurance ?220, horse recovery ?112, insurance for horses ?53 each horse per year, we have twelve horses, we also pay tax on the food we buy for them.

I'm an HGV driver and also cycle to work most days which is about a 16 mile round trip, and I also hate cyclists and I'm one of them, but unlike many of them im aware of how much room buses and trucks need to make turns ect.
At least horse riders give way to you if there out on the road unlike damn bike riders who like to ride side by side.

Roll on the Tour Of Britain, can't wait.8rfl@

You don't consider the revenue the event will generate in the area covered will compensate for any slight inconvenience? They and their supporters will no doubt be spending some money in the area, which would otherwise have been lost. How long are the roads going to be closed for? If its only part day closure, why on earth are you so huffy about it? (just asking):dunno:

If it's the tax you're worried about then most riders will also drive cars and hence have paid the same as any one else. Additionally the levels of tax generated by such events generally ends up as a net contribution to the countries coffers.

Don't worry- a recently pass law will mean they're be more road closures in the future for sports events. The difference is they'll be motorsport based.

You could always go ask each competitor if they've paid their tax.

I do wonder if your issue is tax related at all. Isn't it simply that they're be some inconvenience ?

I have the same love hate relationship with bikes. I own one and love to ride it, but I find it too stressful to ride just 3 miles to work. Even worst competing with mum with kids in the back of the car on my way home. At the moment I spend my days driving an HGV around London, trust me, that's a way to see idiots on 2 wheels in Lycras.
As for DK, he's just enjoying being a grumpy old man. Another thing he wants the monopoly of. :-0)

How long will the roads be closed? Too long.
Revenue? Like the revenue generated by the Olympics & tour de Farce? How much of that have we seen? It will have been used paying council workers overtime to clean up the shit left after these events.
Inconvenience? We have two mares in foal, we need 24 hour access for emergencies.

Think I might organise a tour of Britain but on horseback, see how many people complain about that. :-0)

If you want to ride a bike, do like I do & ride over grassland & through woods, safer & a damn site more interesting.

Clueless in most things
I admire the skills of cyclists, how on earth they manage to not lose their balance with such huge chips on their shoulders is beyond me.

You've seen the figures and proof but choose to dismiss them.

I've not seen any figures or proof, my council tax has gone up, my wages haven't risen for over six years, the roads are still in a shit state, there are no. More police on the streets, NHS is nearly bankrupt, only MP's & bankers getting richer.
You think we've benefitted from these events? 8rfl@

Yep ... if you thought a sporting event could solve all those issues then you're deluded.

Certainly not deluded, unlike the people who think that these events are organised for everyone's benefit.
Shopkeepers in London noticed an increase in their takings during the Olympics, following year, massive hike in their shop rental & rates.

Suppose I need to get a vet to my mares & the vet can't get through & we lose the foals, that's a minimum of ?3000 I will have lost. Who would compensate for that? The council? Event organisers? Police who turned the vet away?
Many cyclists already think they can do what they like on the road, these events just add to their beliefs.

We MTB ers have a saying round here, that the Roadies "shave their legs and vaginas" Never have I seen such a bunch of arrogant wankers.....

Thankfully a big cycle event round here has been cancelled due to public outcry, certain persons last year lobbing a load of tacks in the road at various points, causing lots of loud back when 200 psi tyres hit them.

They tried the income we generate ploy, and it was laughed at by the local people shops etc, victory!

Has not put the weekend heroes off yet though.........

So thats acceptable behaviour is it? The consequences don't bear thinking about. It just makes the locals as bad as the roadies that you seem to despise.

I could argue that MTBers are just as bad as they get in the way of people enjoying the countryside. I assume you stick to bridleways and don't ride on footpaths.

you will find not all road riders are arrogant wankers and a lot of roadies like myself also ride MTB's also! You will also find a lot of pro tour riders like Bradley Wiggins also use MTB as part of there winter training. Also downhill world champion Steve Pete rides road bikes too,as road riding is a better way to train your cardio than been out on your MTB. As for the pricks putting nails in the road I hope they could deal with the guilt of some poor guy getting killed due to there stupidity.
Some single minded locals once put sand and oil on bends near the Cat&Fiddle pud between Macclesfield and Buxton causing a few riders to get badly hurt,it's not big to do such things, just stupid!
Yes some road cyclists can be twats just like some motorcyclists can be stupid with speed in the wrong places, but what makes MTB'ers any different when there tearing down local public footpaths/Bridleways where other people are walking with family and dogs/horses.
