Maybe just eliminating a possible cause, but can you confirm that you have done this please?

The reg/rec thing is still bothering me - can you confirm that you have disconnected the reg/rec from the loom i.e. where it connects to the loom on the left hand side of the bike, probably under a soft plastic shroud and (hopefully) a ton of self amalgamating tape and not just from the generator. The reason being that it has been known for a reg rec to fail internally and allow current to flow the 'wrong' way (trust me, I know this!) - if it is connected to the loom this can cause problems (fortunately in my case the main fuse blew).

Although everything so far says it is not linked to the work you have just done, logic says it probably is. If it was alright before....:dunno:

Just had a bit of a look under the tank and looks like some bodge work has been done at some point, tape around loom about 6 inches in front of the battery has been stripped and wires have been soldered and connected together with bullet connectors, anyway jiggled the wires a bit (that's tye technical term lol) and tried the indicators on the off chance and they worked so tried headlights and they didn't, tried indicators again and nothing, so jiggled loom again, indicators working so tried starting and away she went, tried headlights with it running they came on for a split second then engine cut out. So looks like the problem is in that part of the loom and its a bloody mess, really looking forward to sorting it... Not! How much would a new loom be likely to cost?

There's at least a couple of main looms on eBay at the moment, both less than ?50, may be an option for you?

Loom change is extreme if it can be avoided.

Well done, Mike. Bullet connectors are shite. Solder and shrink wrap is the best way. If you have never soldered before then practice first but it's fairly easy. :-0)

Soldering isn't a problem, I install car alarms, and other accessories for a living, just have to find the time to do it now lol

Starting to think this bike has got it in for me lol, got wiring sorted, running fine on Sunday night so 6 o'clock this morning got kitted out wheeled her out of the garage and started up, all great so far. Side stand up, in gear, dead..... Bollocks.tried again same problem, then noticed side stand light not working so reached down and messed with the switch a bit and its buggered, light flickers as plug position is changed but won't stay lit, so new switch now needed. I will get this bloody thing running again one day

If this switch doesn't turn up before Saturday I will be wanting instructions on that so I can bet the bloody thing out for a bit on Sunday, getting withdrawal symptoms lol, it's the longest I have not rode that has not been caused by snow or ice for years

She lives... Ish, the switch is from a 2004 and only 2 wire but I can now get it in gear as normal but doesn't cut out with stand down which isn't a huge problem just have to remember, but the side stand light comes on with stand up and not down, would this just be a case of swapping wires round?
