Avon Storm bullshit!!

ianrobbo1

good looking AND modest
Just been on the phone to Avon Tyres today, spoke to Pete Mcnally who proceeded to tell me the excessive wear/cupping on the right side of the front tyre was because of roundabouts :dunno: so why does the rear not wear the same says I ??? he then tried more bullshit, before I told him it was total rubbish!! and I didn't want to hear more, :dunno:

So today has taught me, if you want your tyres to last "don't go round roundabouts"!! :dunno:
Or if you want to listen to Bullshit phone Avon,

BTW having returned home and checked the date and mileage the front has done 4527 miles and less than a year old. NOT the 6000 that was "mentioned" at the beerfest!!:dunno:

PS they don't seem to know who their dealers are either, Jordan Bikes Leeds, have repeatedly asked to be removed as suppliers, yet click on the "find a dealer" button, guess who pops up??:dunno:

So if you Buy a set of Avon don't go round roundabouts or sharp bendy bits, so you just as well leave the forking bike the shed or garage or wherever you leave it and walk to work or a nice run and feel good about yourself get fit be happier treat life like your floating on a cloud, and talk a bullshit like an Avon rep

I've 80,000 miles plus now on Avon Storms (on the ST1100 & the Bird) and am more than happy with them. The anti puncture warranty is also worth it, claimed on it twice after getting punctures in the first 1mm of wear.

Regarding roundabouts yes I have suffered that problem but as I said that was in MK (which for those who don't know it is the spiritual home of the roundabout) and it's also happened with Metzlers in my own experience plus Bridgestones. Continentals and whatever other brand you care to mention on other peoples bikes.

4527 miles?

I've been getting around 10,000 plus from the front Storm (Ultra IIs) on my carby and around half that on the rear

On the pan it was a little higher

I had two storm fronts go exactly the same, emailed avon, got bullshit reply. Now trying Angel GT.

Odd thing is the first showed signs of RH flat like yours and got Really bad while abroad, so even roundabouts where you're on t'other side of the road still wear the RH side... Must be all roundabouts worldwide.

What Fookin good is a tyre that don't like bends.

A few years ago I had an Avon Azaro (front) wear in just the same manner but worse, as Robbo's but happy with the mileage. Nobody has ever explained why it wore like that and all other Avons I've had since, have not.

However, I've only ever "spoke" or "listened" to peeps here and the Dark Side, so really have only heard proper bollox from KAFKA's rather than professional tyre peeps. I bet a paaaarnd to a pinch of shite the reps didn't quite say it like that or they were just the monkeys and not the organ grinder.

"Oh yes, I'm the Head of Tyre Technology at Avon/Pirelli/Michelin etc, been employed for donkey's years but know fook all about tyres and talk absolute bollox and it's only the Forum lads that can see through me. "

My arse.

I called Avon a couple of years ago after problems with 2 successive front Storms..I spoke to a guy called Ken Tucker, who was a very nice chap, but couldn't explain the problem, and sent me a free set of storms on the understanding that I returned the 2 dodgy fronts.@tu*

The front tyre on that set also went strange after a couple of thousand miles, and that's when I ditched Avons, switched to Pirelli Angels, and haven't looked back.

One thing I found with the storms was that mileages varied hugely..Usually,I'd get around 8000 miles from a pair, but occasionally the fronts were down to the limit within 5000 miles.:dunno:

I have the same problem with a rear Storm II on the ST1300, But much more obvious. Front is ok with no uneven wear.
Both have done... 6,060 miles so far.
If I can be arsed, I'll go and get a photo.

I must admit, I do use the bike for training, with lots of roundabouts, and I do get the pegs down quite often, ( Not doing CBT's ;-0))) but the wear is very noticeable.

I think it will also be Angels for me next time.

it's al a bit like condoms at the end of the day, what suits one person doesn't suit another.

Some of it ultimately comes down to the way you ride her

Spoke to an Avon rep today & told him your problem Ian, first question he asked was "What colour bike?" I told him "red" "That's the problem" he replied "Avon Storms are designed to be ridden fast, the slower they are ridden the faster they will deteriorate"
Look at the postivie though Ian at least something about the red bird is faster :-0)
