Maybe it isn't ok to joke about such things Wurley but as explained on that particular thread we joke about it because it brings home to us our own mortality.
The thalidomide drug was a man made disaster that caused pain and suffering to many children and has continued to cause pain and suffering to many people it could have been avoided, maybe if you had joked about it in a work environment you would have got a more positive response, but on an open forum mate there are boundaries, and I would hope that if I were foolish enough to cross those boundaries then someone would take me to task, as silverone mildly did with you.

I didn't mean to have a pop at you. I just find having a go at children with unthinkable deformities caused by man's greed or possibly mistakes a bit over the top. I am old enough to have seen some of the thalidomide children and I will never forget it. We laugh at crisis like Pakistan because it isn't personal.....not to us and probably to deny our own human frailty....wrongly, but that's the way we are.... but children.....I thought I gave a gentle hint of how the joke (in my opinion) would go down on here and Silverone went a little further. I don't believe we are a closed shop....but if you don't like us on here there are plenty of other forums who will appreciate your particular sense of humour. puerile yes and infinitely sad. uke:

Centaur - I quoted a portion of your post to highlight how this site, not individuals, can be closed and hypocritical, I could easily have quoted some of DK's aswell, but you argued against yourself so readily.

Until this evening I had never argued against or upset anyone on this site, but I have never in any of my few postings abused an individual. Please enlighten me as to what gives you the right to speak to me like that.

I think DK hit the nail on the head earlier on. You have to find your audience and perhaps this forum isn't the place for that particular kind of joke, but good on you for the apology k1ap

When I joined the forum I tried to prove my sense of humour by posting a paedophile joke, which went down like a brick in water. Where I work it was the ultimate in humour as I and someone else on here spend our working day in the company of hundreds - yes HUNDREDS - of these people and such sick and/or dark humour is part of our coping mechanism - and of course we are always careful about who we share our humour with.

Keep posting. As with any group you'll soon find the "level" and your experience will become a much more pleasant one.

The Bloke that Steve refers to is me, and yes in the environment we work in a sick sense of humour helps get you through the day, the jokes I tell and hear at work cannot be repeated in polite company, so I try to be careful what I post on here, sometimes I may overstep the boundaries and as I said I would hope that someone takes me to task rather than let me go on to cause offence, if I make a mistake I hold up my hands and apologise.
I wouldn't say the forum is a closed shop to newbies the more posters we have the more successful the forum, we all start from post number one.
