so I did oil/filter plugs..iridiums...and air filter the other wk....now when I roll off the throttle at speed and then roll it back on the bike stutters n holds back is the best way I can describe it......and if I try to hold a steady throttle in 5/6th it isn't smooth...I've lifted tank ..checked everything is seated right an it is. ....pipe off rear of the head is on the bit of the tap facing forwards and me Scott oiler works so that's correct.....doing me head in now. ...went to Cardiff last night on it and it was terrible on the motorway. .had to keep dropping down geara to get me speedup.....HELP!!

Did you gap your new plugs, wrong plug gaps can make some odd running issues!
I assume all was well before you services it?

Standard filter I.e paper type? If not stick a paper one in. But agree on plug gaps although they have always been good out of the box in my experience. May be a plug lead not quite back properly?

I think iridium Plugs are right but possibly an unnecessary expense for carb Bird- can someone confirm:dunno:

If you have removed the tank completely to change the plugs and air filter, are you absolutely sure you have refitted the fuel and air pipes correctly?

Another thing to check is that the choke cable hasn't become snagged. Does it operate smoothly from the handlebar lever?

You try and gap iridium plugs and you throw them in the bin.. They should NOT be touched at all

re stutter..
Are you sure the plenum is fully seated ok ( air box ) .. Had a couple turn up here with similar issues and both had just been self serviced.. Both chaps had over tightened the jubilee clips that hold the air box on the carbs and effectively squeezed them up !

I had a similar issue with the Bird when I first got it. Took it back to the dealer I bought it from but they couldn't find anything wrong. Turned out to be the choke cable was incorrectly routed.

I agree with andybird's comment on iridium plugs, I don't see the point on any bike, they don't seem to last any longer & can only supply the spark provided by the coils, where is the benefit :dunno:

Having said that I have gapped plenty without problems, just wont spend out the extra on them for my own bikes until I can be convinced of the benefit

Clueless in most things
Throwing it into the mix with no rhyme or reason. When you changed the filter and put the tank back on did you check to see none of the pipes have been pinched or trapped so restricting flow?

I only asked as I have something similar and so lifted the tank and found one of the tubes had been so routed it properly, carefully lowered the tank again and then no issues?

If I am talking bolloxs like usual then please ignore this post @tu*

I first put a brand new set of ngk's in and thought it may b a dodgy plug so bought sum uk sourced iridiums and it's still doing it....and it was fine before I did the service......but I did notice that the little foot at the front of the air box is not sitting under the gap in the frame now as it won't go forward enuff...it was sat there before I took the air box off......this in turn would make the air box funnels slightly higher then before but would this affect the way the air is sucked in atall??

the only pipes r the 2 big petrol ones which no way can kink and the one from the rear of the head with me oiler on it is only long enuff to reach the tap so no kinks there. ....should there b any other pipes from/to anywere else? ??I have a pipe off the rear of the paper facing down with a straight bit of pipe...overflow /breather...dangling down b the swing arm. ......its got 84471 miles on it.....could it b a coil? ?...if I give it bend through every gear it's fine....its only when I sit at higher speeds on steady throttle. ..or roll off then bak on....the plug gaps I assumed r right from the factory so left em how they come...I ran half a bottle of red x through the last tank aswell....

yep..choke cable is sweet...I checked it before putting tank back on....and all my pipes match the diagram u jus put up........I used a hi flow air filter same as before. ......all the boots r seated sweet on the throttle bodies....should there b a rubber boot on that little leg on the air box....it seems when I pull away it's sucking air cleanly. ..then when I stop sucking (roll off throttle)...the air is not flowing right....to allow it to get bak up to speed......this even make sense?!?...lol:dunno:

Yes, but if you went a bit potty with the tightening they may well have squeezed them selves back up !!

All you need do is physically LOOK at them to make sure they are all the way down
If they have popped up just undo the clips a bit.. They really do not need much more than the slack taken up @tu*
