It's not just London BIF that is targeted. Those of us who work in the oil industry and ports will know that for years we have been higher on target lists and we are all trained in awareness and dealing with incidents.

This year a legal requirement of industry connected with ports is to employ the ISPS code. This is International Ship and Port Security. Companies, managers and vessels captains take these duties very seriously.

The general public are not aware of what goes on "behind the scenes" and this is ok as we all want to live our lives as normally as possible but we all have to be vigilant and just because you don't live in or visit London BIF doesn't mean that you will not be targeted.

No event should be cancelled because of "potential" terrorist attacks otherwise those that wish to spoil our way of life have won.

Sad Day

A very sad day indeed. Thoughts and sympathy go to those killed or injured and their families/friends. As well as all those currently in London who must be terrified.

Those who do these things must have been somehow convinced to let their humanity desert them.

The purpose of activities like this to use fear and stop people leading their lives as a result. As well as encouraging draconian laws in an effort to prevent such atrocities. Terrorist only succeed when they stop people leading normal lives.

Okay, so immigration is not a point at present, but I feel very strongly that we, or our government continues to let in people to live in this country willy nilly. We have no border controls to be any use at all. How often are you checked at customs? Going on Eurotunnel, they are so lax. I noticed that in europe many of the countries are now re-starting their border controls.

Yes, we have many extremists in this country, but we also have so many laws protecting them!

As for being vigilant, believe me I know, I have worked for high profile folk, in their personal domains where I have had to be very vigilant during threats.

Create disruption, discord and fear.

Frightened peeps react irrationally - flight or fight.

Before this how many threads went on about not wanting ID cards, big brother controling our lives, GPS monitering of vehicles etc., etc.

Worst thing that can happen is that we suddenly get so scared we agree to all the things that we really didn't want. 'Cause in time we'll forget and memories will dim as to why we have such things we'll just have internal discord objecting to them.

I seem to remember from way back when that this was always a standard terrorist/anarchist type mantra - create fear which causes draconian laws/restriction then use the fact those laws/restrictions exist to encourage popular dissent to attack the establishment.

It's really hard to stay calm and rational in the face of the fear that todays events generate buts thats the only real way to fight back.
