Is there any substance to the saying

"Those that can do, those that can't teach"

Just wondered like :dunno:

no mate. Way off. Those who can graft, those who can teach instead get paid 3 times as much telling you. It's what happens when you sit at the back at school.

Wow maaan, I'm feeling the love, far out. Love, peace and hugs xx

Captain Birdseye, ahoy there, you are feeling the love aren't you, this is much more restrained, are we chums now? I can't help thinking though that much of what you've said (and I agree with some of it) needs to be directed at the jumped up munters that run our education system and not at me and my colleagues, we have our hands tied, and not in a good way.
Now come on Popeye I still don't seem to be getting you to answer the question as to what the alternative to giving them a slap actually is. You do realize don't you that we can't give em a slap, not if we want to keep our jobs, Can't use cattle prods, not supposed to use sarcasm either.
Are you suggesting that a police state is what we need, a lot of people have given their lives to ensure we don't live in that type of system. Your thoughts on' immigrants' are just too right wing for me.

So, Pugwash, I guess our relationship is doomed, although they do say opposites attract. I bet you look a treat in your sailor boy out fit.

Now my wife has been in the Civil Service for around 27 years and has worked her way to a glorious salary of ?18k. Her office is to close within a year as part of the cutbacks and they will refuse to pay redundancy as they reckon the senior staff (or those that will gain from redundancies) will be allocated offices within one hours travel. On top of this, you have the pensions issue.

She would be expected to contribute an extra ?80-?100 per month so, roughly ?1k per year plus the extra travel to get to the new office. As I need the car, this will cost her ?15 a day or roughly 1.5k per year, though costs will be covered for 3 years though you get taxed on it (crafty bastards).

So, any point in striking and loosing pay when it will make no difference.

I guess the point of this post is to show that the Civil Service for the ordinary bod is a totally unrewarding and shit job.

Captain Birdseye, ahoy there,

Like, wow, maaan, cosmic!

you are feeling the love aren't you, this is much more restrained, are we chums now?

Yeah, maaan, like Neil and Vivian in the Young Ones. Were, like, brothers in Afghans and sandals!

I can't help thinking though that much of what you've said (and I agree with some of it) needs to be directed at the jumped up munters that run our education system and not at me and my colleagues, we have our hands tied, and not in a good way.

Ok, take a look at my post on this thread on Sunday morning where I said exactly that "Again, I think you have to lay the blame at successive governments and governing bodies for that one. Left wing, liberal hippies emasculating the rights of parents and teachers and giving rights to kids."

Now come on Popeye I still don't seem to be getting you to answer the question as to what the alternative to giving them a slap actually is.

That's because I don't believe there is an alternative. Doing away with the cane in schools was the thin edge of the wedge. Next, parents were banned from smacking their own kids. Wtf! I agree that some people have gone way too far (I'm not even going to try and be witty on that score) but sometimes, a short, sharp clip round the ear does the business.

The only realistic alternative, I guess, is to slap the parents?

You do realize don't you that we can't give em a slap, not if we want to keep our jobs, Can't use cattle prods, not supposed to use sarcasm either.

A tazer would probably be quite effective.

Not supposed to use sarcasm? You have got to be kidding! Let me guess, you might damage their self-esteem? See my previous comments on the 60% marking bullcrap.

Are you suggesting that a police state is what we need, a lot of people have given their lives to ensure we don't live in that type of system.

A police state would be going too far for my liking but there has to be some form of discipline. Do you not agree that peolpe would think twice about misbehaving if there were serious consequences to pay for their actions? If I had my way, Madame Guillotine would borrowed from the French, I can tell you, oh yes. That said, that bunch of jessies who masquerade as our government would never bring back capital punishment, even humane style like lethal injection. Fine. Build some prison ships, anchor them offshore and life sentences should mean exactly that. You commit murder matey boy, and you're banged up for the rest of your born natural.

Thinking about it, that at least gives someone a chance if new evidence is brought to light that proves their innocence.

The point is, if the punishments are severe enough, crime rates will fall, end of.

Your thoughts on' immigrants' are just too right wing for me.

Tell me I'm wrong though.

So, Pugwash,

Don't forget Sinbad!

I guess our relationship is doomed, although they do say opposites attract.

Told you already, John Lennon, brothers in Afghans and sandals, maaan!

I bet you look a treat in your sailor boy out fit.

I certainly looked good in full blues with stripes!

If that was me, the GF would say that I lack drive & ambition.

My maths says that she works 100 days per year. You seemed to neglect this when whingeing about the salary- you made it sound like a full-time job.

Your post seems to be a little lacking in honesty. 18K plus pension plus travel costs for 3 years for 100 days' work isn't entirely unrewarding, is it?

Difficult to disagree when the maths is further considered.

If the lady earns 18k for three days a week, that would be more like 30k for five days a week. Not too shabby at all.
