fine line between abuse and fun....and if you`re new on here, it might be misconstrued as offensive and personal.......i can see and understand that.....

Surely anyone wishing to join the forum takes a good look around and knows what to expect before registering. Of course they do, and look how many new members we have pulled in recently, including sponsors. We must be doing something right.
Peeps get different things from the Coffee Shop, as can be seen from the types of thread different peeps contribute to. It's horses for courses (no FUK, NOT meal courses) so members use what they want and filter out the rest, if you don't appreciate the banter simply ignore it; but don't ban it.

I have to say that i find this forum brilliant, I have had some good advice from peeps on here, people are always ready to help, not just me but others, I do regret not being able to have met any of you yet, but work/family have to come first.

BUT

I think to some it can be intimidating, esp with some of the banter that goes on, some (I for one anyway) dont know sometimes if it it is serious or not, so in times like that I find it best to steer clear of that thread. But some of it is painfully funny as well. There are times when I have refrained from posting something funny/witty (To me any way) for fear it may have offended someone, esp seeing as i have not met any one yet (Well i met Jaws :bow: ) The trouble with any forum is that there is a line that sometimes will get crossed, and people will take offence, I think its best just to swallow your pride, PM an apology and carry on with life.


Just my thoughts any way.

I agree with what most people have said, this forum is brilliant and shouldn't be changed. I'm not sure what started this problem and frankly don't give a f*ck, but if someone is upset about the p*ss taking, then sod off and go somewhere else. Rhino, Lumpy and FB are lifes p*ss takers and help to make this forum what it is.

Fair point Coddy, but the thing to do is meet the folk on here and you'll soon discover they are nothing like they appear on the forum and are, in the main, reasonable with most having a decent sense of humour (if not a tad Benny Hill!!! :} )
In the 2 years I've been on line here, I've met loads of decent folk from here and have at least 3 (what I call) real mates, i.e. we share the same humour, we've traveled abroad together, we know each others families and regularly meet up at each other's homes. Got to thank the site for that. :bow:

Okay okay, my fault. I did get a PM of complaint from someone, which suggested that some people were being put off joining because the banter was being mistaken for actual threats and they were therefore being put off of registering. I copied the pm to Jaws because I thought he would want to know and I thought (stupidly) that you lot, being such kind and warm-hearted chaps, might want to make the place a little more welcoming to new fellow BIRD owners.

Of course, the theory has backfired badly because I forgot that the closest you lot have ever got to having a warm heart was one that was stuffed, covered in tomato sauce and served with chips :neenaw: . A swinging brick might be closer to the truth :f .

So some want to leave 'cos it's too nasty, and others want to leave 'cos it's not nasty enough. I guess it's just impossible to please all the people all the time :B :dunno:

1... Someone has emailed Wiz about the "banter"/abuse.... So fooking what

(and before anyone thinks it was me.... It fookin wasnt.. :f )

2... Just because one person complains, it doesnt mean the end of BIRD.and I quote Lumpy " It would be easy to kill the spirit that exists far too easily, we are a fragile bunch you know" ? Although this sort of fall out has split up IXXRA & BIRD, we(and by that I mean FB & Taz& the rest of us) have brought have brought it back together for the first time in 3 years....

4. If anyone finds something insulting, then fookin well say so.... If I, or anyone else lose their temper, IT IS ALLOWED !!! We do cool off after a while... Although what I found offensive 2 years ago, still hasnt really changed, and although Lumpy wouldnt know, Bert would and shouldnt have "boinged it", especially as he knows how I feel about this sort of thing. I dont have any problem with people doing what you lot call "banter" amongst themselves, please dont do it at me, and I wont do it at you lot...Thats fair isnt it?..

As for the person emailing Wiz privately, thats up to him/her isnt it ??? As far as I was aware, it is still a free country, and you are allowed to make your own comments either to the management/forum master. A few posts above, Lumpy called me an "arsehole"... He has never met me, and doesnt know who I am or what I am like...But he is entiteled to his own opinion...I know a few people who have read some of his comments, and asked "is he a pubescent teenager or just a total wanker"?? (and that is a direct quote), but that is their opinion (and they havent met him either)

Shit guys n gals.......Talk about doom talkers..... Poor old Lumpy has started talking of the tolling of the death knoll...Personally, I dont think it will happen for a long time....if ever......

And by the way... I do apologise to Bert for losing my temper with him... I must be honest and say it was at the end of a very long day, but I am not the one who who emailed Wiz about the "banter/insulting" behaviour. I still find insults insulting, and probably wont change, but thats life...Same as some people wont "grow up"...As for Lumpys "aliens coming into our country" I would just like to put forward the picture that a few of us were here long, long before he, and others came aboard, and added their own kind of "banter" to our own very special club....
