I think you've spent too much time in France.

The song has two themes....

1. We gave Edward the second and his army a good kicking and we won't see the like of the men who did it again.

2. We can become a nation again. Funny....as far as I'm aware we ARE a nation and have been for hundreds of years.

Neither of which make much sense as a national anthem.
As much sense as ‘God Save the King’.

a) the king isn’t dead and b) in my opinion there isn’t a god.

And another enthralling match today, Wales v. France. Very end to end and high scoring. It was a pleasure to watch with a very strong finish by Les Bleus.
There was a first for me in this match - three of the French players, clearly selected for their athleticism and skill opposed to their twenty stone plus weight, had beer guts on the back of their necks.

Bollox....it's a dreary song.
What's the point in singing about a battle we won 700 and some years ago against an English army when we're playing against the French, Irish, Italians or just about every other nation apart from England..?
Time to move on from the SNP Party's favourite rabble rousing singalong and find something more relevant.
I've just come down
From the Isle of Skye
I'm not very big and I'm awful shy
And the lassies shout when I go by
Donald, where's your troosers?
Let the wind blow high
Let the wind blow low
Through the streets, in my kilt I'll go
All the lassies say hello
Donald, where's your troosers?

The Scotland football fans have adopted a 70s disco classic as their official song…you can just about make it out in this. As a point of interest I have this on 12” vinyl in my collection

Reminds me of deployment to Toulon on HMS Hermes in 1977

Very sporting of the Italian team to allow Wales a consolation try at the very end of the match, but they still only claimed the wooden spoon.
Another excellent win for Italy.

It has taken a while, but they are improving year by year.

next is Ireland v Scotland. Ireland at home have an advantage, but perhaps the Scots can surprise them? A high scoring loss for Ireland with no bonus points for either side would be good for England later on tonight.

Made hard work of that:rolleyes:
Yep. Ireland were lucky.
The first half was very sedate. Second half was better for Ireland.
Some dubious calls by the ref for both sides.

Do think it was a try, second one definitely held up.
Scots well up for it.

We should have held the ball last week like today and avoided drop goal - not that I know much about rugby.

I would say the first half was intense rather than sedate. The confident Irish team and supporters were clearly surprised by Scottish tactics but worked them out at half time.

Game was decided by Scotland scoring the equivalent of an own goal for the try and making errors the few occasions they got up the pitch in the second half.
