Non smoker me

so I haven't hit the poll. I gave up several years ago but it was fairly easy for me to give up as i was a social smoker. I only smoked when I had a drink but I smoked continuously when I drank. Solution....don't drink for a while. SWMBO is a different case though. She is addicted to nicotine and has a fag with her first cup of tea in the morning. I don't really notice her smoking at home and don't really mind the smoke but I notice when we travel in the car together I can tell when she neeeds to light up. She fidgets and gets animated so I know her body is craving a fix. Or at least that's the way it appears to me. Just noticed the extra "e" but I'll leave it. Appropriate maybe!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Phooking Communist Gov't and Nanny State Big Brother rule again eh??

Now I can't even go for a beer and a smoke

So what will happen......?

a] Drinkers will drink OUTSIDE the pub so that they can smoke - so the City Centre's will have even more pissed up youths on the streets. Plod will object and try to stop them - even more city centre social unrest and friction

b] The Pub trade [already financially on it's knees] will die - the bars and pubs outside the city centres will no longer be there - YOUR local will close through lack of trade

c] "Private Clubs" that may remain exempt - like the bar in the House of Commons [very convenient!!!] will suddenly appear - pay a tenner a year for membership - come in and chuff away

d] This WILL [IMHO] be the downfall of the current Government - what they have failed to grasp is that [with all due respect to smokers] stereotypically smoking is more prevalent within the working classes. It's the working classes who support the local boozers and, co-incidentally, also the biggest supporters of the Labour Party

So good old Phoney Tony has just shot himself right in the bollox

Roll on the General Election!! s04pb0x6 :tosser: :bandit:

a) Possibly

b) bollox - look at Ireland - bit of a slump in trade - now the pubs are heaving

c)May happen

d)Bollox - I work with at least 15 blokes here - all would class themselves as Working Class - only 1 smokes! And who is going to take their place - Tories? - don't make me laugh. Liberals - are there any left? Some people would consider that Blair has finally done something he promised to do ( along with fox hunting) - he may possibly consider himself in a stronger position now.

Just my 5 euro's worth!

Wake up and and smeel the fresh air.

I was going going to write a load of self righteous stuff about not smoking, but I can't be arsed. You know it's going to shorten your life. In the mean time thanks for contributing so much to the Inland Revenue.

Enjoy it too. As for the Inland Revenue! Don't think any Government will do without the Billions in Tax smokers contribute because they wont. Just means non-smokers will have to stump up the difference along with smokers to make up the shortfall. Have a feeling it'll go on booze and fuel myself. Look forward to thatc7u8 .

Don't worry about it, i'd rather pay some extra tax than sit in some smoke filled pub gagging 3ck04 .. Paying the extra tax has never been an issue with non smokers as far as i'm aware. Can't have it all ways.

Who said you were to STOP anyway??
Non smokers just want you to go outside to do it..

That's if all smokers stop smoking. It will not happen. Smokers aren't going to stop, and stop going to the pub, they will find away around it.

I think the ban is the best thing this Government has ever done.

Well if they stop all smoking in public places then all smokers need to do is attend the local fox hunt meetings as the laws get blatantly broken at each meeting without police intervention !!

Smokers and Huntsmen unite :yo:

I am sure the police have plenty of time to spare to 'police' the new legislation

Well, as a complete non-smoker (not one puff ever) and living with CAD, a smoker, the total ban is crap!! It is my choice as a non-smoker to go into a smoking atmosphere, if i don't like it, I'll go somewhere else! It's so wrong that people are being forced to give up an activity they enjoy or have to be forced outside! 8ree! Will you have to pay a re-entry fee in a night club if you want to have a smoke & be forced outside??!! Just get some decent fans!!%$fan
Happy if tax goes up!!?? I don't think so!!!

Lol!! That's nonsense Bert!

Do you honestly think that smokers are not going to use pubs because of this? Don't talk daft! There will be a bit of protest avoidance intially, but they'll soon cave in and get on with it, as they did in Ireland.

why not????

Am lead to believe that some non-smokers would not use pubs because of the smokers so why not the other way around, or were the non smokers talking crap again???

I smoked because I like the taste and the feeling and .. well I just enjoyed a smoke..
But realistically, as the years go buy I am on a diminishing return to have to try and make the most of whats left ( and to stretch that out as far as poss ! )

I hope the day never comes but if I was diagnosed with something terminal ( other than terminal stupidity ! ) I would start smoking again !

Utter crap.

Where else IS there to go???

Nowhere else. If i CHOOSE to go out to a pub for a pint and to socialise then I AM FORCED to endure cigarette smoke!!

You find me '1' place in Manchester with a pub atmosphere where smoking is prohibited.......you can't!

As for taxes, i don't care if they go up a touch as i value my lungs more than my account.

err??? that because the "pub atmosphere" is beer and smoke, you want no smoke go to a wine bar. or restaurant.

Also manchester aint exactly the be all and end all is it now!!
