Should I sell my Bird,

Getting older and the weight pushing it about is getting a bit much for me, "shoulder, back and wrist problems, even though riding it is still great, the simple fact it weighs a bloody tonne when pushing it about, and as one or two know I've managed to drop it more than once recently, now Yvo has a 600 Hornet "similar to what I chopped in to get the Bird" and it's so much easier to drag about, so I'm thinking Hornet 900 would give the acceleration and normal road speeds without the weight, I've always been a "Keep it you'll regret it" person, but really having second thoughts, what in all honestly do you think I should do, aaabike pictures.jpg2.jpg

You know what it's built for and if your need is no longer that then move it on. The trouble I've had with this in the past is that I knew the bike inside out and would be unlikely to get as good a bike for the money it would sell for. If it is a choice however between staying on two wheels by getting a lighter more needs related different bike and an ornament with memories but no more riding, the bird goes.

Go on a diet.

Or you tow the tin tent and let Yvo ride.

Already lost a stone, it's fuck all to do with MY weigh it's the bikes that I'm having problems with, and ONLY when shoving it about!! thanks for your positive input :brush:

I was having the same trouble robbo, first I messed about with the bird then eventually broke it for spares & bought the bike on my avatar, damn near as fast as the bird, as comfortable & a shed load lighter/easier to move around or chuck about on the road & cheaper too

Sell the bird & keep riding on something more suited to your advanced age is my advice :D

Sold my bird to Jaws a couple of years ago, I'm 68 this year and I'd had it for twelve years, it got to be too much hassle to manoeuvre a big heavy bike in and out of the garage, turn a 180° on the drive, move the car and my van etc. same again on return.I've now got a Peugeot Satelis scooter which is much lighter, easier to handle, nowhere near as quick, but I enjoy riding it and it keeps me on two wheels. In an ideal world I would have a track bike,I only live 15mins from Mallory, but it won't happen.

Cheers Steve, although I'm "only" 61 I don't think I could do a scooter, I'm considering a 900 Hornet or a CBF 1000, as they both have a bit of poke without the weight shoving it around, and for how often I use the birds ballistic speed something with a similar "get up n go" such as the two mentioned have a more attractive appeal !! I just wish I could afford to keep the bird and another bike!! especially when I consider the money I've spent on it!! :(

I had the first 900 Hornet sold in the UK and was dreadfully disappointed, Ian. I was expecting a naked Blade but all the Blade engine's get up and go had got up and gone. NO kick at the top end and nowt extra down low.
Newer versions may be better. I got shot after three months with 4000 on the clock. Heresy I know, but could I suggest a Triumph. The Street Triple is brilliant as an all round bike. :nusenuse:

Owned a Hornet 900 for 4 1/2 years..Cracking bike..Compact ,manageable
but with a nice beefy motor.Great at the commute and the weekend hoon.
Not in the same league as the bird for long distance or high speed trips but
it does o/k at everything else.

That's why we have blondes, brunettes and redheads. We all have different tastes.

The cbf 1000 is a good bike and slightly lighter than the bird and a bit more sit up, it doesn't knock your socks off but if something like that keeps you riding it is def worth it.

I've been rooting through my garage looking for the original parts I've replaced/upgraded on my bike, and am amazed at just how much of it I can swap back to standard before flogging it, about the only parts I haven't got is a pair of standard non cat exhausts, we've just been out for a quick spin on the bikes and the rush I got from the bird, is really giving me a hard time trying to decide what to do!! I'm even trying to find ways of getting another bike and keeping the bird!!

Wow never thought I'd see this from you Robbo !
Although I fully understand your reasons, I'd never sell mine because to be honest its worth feck all except to me and a 87k mile bike nearly 20 years old would be a waste of time flogging even if I did think of it.
I have to say you should give the 900 Tracer a shot, I think its brilliant, got a fantastic 3 triple motor and is so much lights to throw around and also manoeuvre when off it.
We've just been on a 120 mile bimble to Strathdon (to the cake stop!) on the Tracer and although I know Yvo has her own bike, Janice thinks its great on the back as well.
Before I got the Tracer I looked at the 1000F and had a shot but is was fookin boring !
Whatever you get you'd still be welcome at the McBASH next year, if there is one !!

Of course you should sell it.

Get a car.

If you really must get another bike, my last bike pre-Bird was a Fazer thousand. Cracking bike.

I had a Fazer 600"before that - again a belting bike, not as good as the 1000 though.

Cool but exactly what is it.
I was going to suggest a CBR 600
Had one for a short while.

When I picked it up on thought clock was kph. Long way down the motorway I realised why Sunday drivers were so slow.
I was doing 120 MPH and there was still some in it.

I thought wet, the bird was around 250 kgs and the cbf1000 is listed as 245-250 kgs, you sure there is a big enough difference in weight loss for you ?
