I find it interesting, that this chap has been banned. Fair play, he seems to have rattled a few cages, but from what iv read nothing that would warrent a ban.

What seems to be the problem is that he has voiced comments, regarding a business transaction between a trader and him self.

I would have thought that said remarks, should have been kept off forum. I see no reason for a trader to use these remarks as an excuse to ban.

I am under the impression that BIRD is part of Bikers Oracle and not Jaws Motorcycles.

Does this now mean that anyone who dares to buy from other traders will face the same fate???? Is it now a policy that if you buy from Jaws and have issues with your purchase you will now be banned????

Double standerds seem to be now creeping in.

This guy really must have pissed those that met him/dealt with him off, to create such a reaction. Unfortunately, in life we do meet people we don't like, or who rub us up the wrong way. Or who have so thick a skin that they think they can say what they like to people without causing offence, and are shocked when they get a reaction. My answer....give them a wide berth.

It may be true that some of us have been a little quick to jump on the bandwagen and agree to the ban. However, most seem to have met and spent time with this guy, so have more personal knowledge of him.

Very dificult for John this, somehow I dont see that the circumstances between them have just happened, more likley the situation has developed over time. I think most of us have knowledge of John, his business, and his helpfullness and personal touch, and somehow can't believe he just told the guy to pi** off at the first instance. I know from personal experience that there is always the odd customer you just can't help, no matter what you do. If you can spot these people before getting involved you can walk away, but sometimes the traits take a while to show through, thats when things can get out of hand.

I think Johns original question on this thread is clearly asking for agreement from others so that he can't be acused of double standards; because of his postion as Business owner, Forum Administrator, Technical adviser to most, Friend to many etc.

Personally I can understand the stress he has recieved over this situation and can only applaud his handling of the matter, he could have just done it without saying anything and few would have noticed.

I see no reason for a ban, on what seems to be a business issue.

But as I have allready said, it is my opinion.

Commercial gain should be kept away from forum desicions.

Besides, virtually everyone on here has been on the receiving end at some point, and you have to remember, this isn't real life, it's a forum.

Sorry if it offends you, but it's what came to mind at the time, and I thought it was funny too.

I've met him too. He seemed a fairly quiet and perhaps shy bloke. Bit like me in that respect though I hope I haven't caused the same offence as he has. I have to say I agree with Martin that a ban and the vitriol he is receiving seems a tad harsh. He probably won't want to have anything to do with people on here anymore. In his shoes, I would not either. (but I'm not in his shoes and I do!)

Must admit I was struggling to make the connection between a business transaction and being removed from forum.

However, if we have to choose which gang to be in............... Stevebiker could have made himself look a lot better if he had the grace to apologise for the comments in the 'riding skills' post he started, but as he didn't seem to have the grace to do so I would be in the JAWS gang at playtime.

When he next pops in to read the comments, which I'm sure he will, he'll see that everyone he's met thinks he's a total prick, he may just amend his ways.

As to the pack of wolves comment, I admit that I'm happy to hound the idiot. He very nearly took me and the wife out on a roundabout because of appaling riding skills and untill he apologises, bollox to him

Apart from all the grief he caused on here, he added shite remarks to his account and has just accused me of selling crap..

I have just sent him this:

Given the fact you have:

called me a thief in the past when you could not find the clips I had put under your seat ( You subsequently found them under the seat and told me, but was not man enough to apologise )

Caused grief on the BIRD forum and again was not man enough to apologise ( instead you just put nasty abuse on your account )

Have now accused me of selling goods not fit for purpose even though the same part has been sold for 7 years world wide with only one failure in all that time

I would greatly appreciate it if you made no further attempts to either buy anything from any of my companies or subsidiaries nor contact either my self or any of my staff

Look I know I'm relatively new around here but I do also run a lot of forums... With the exception of paid subscription forums such as somethingawful, I've always held the view that a forum admin carries the banstick and can hit anyone he pleases if he thinks they are upsetting the balance on a forum. The only exception to this would be a forum with a 'Flame Room' - which imo is the best kind


My two cents:

The only mistake John made was this thread. Should have just banned him an answered questions if anyone bothered to ask.

If he makes a duplicate account and posts on here without giving his ID away, why do we care? More likely he makes a shill account and comes back in a while to tell you all what abominable miscreants you are and explain how you should be riding your bikes... but then if he does that you can all get stuck into flaming him right back off the internet - this is a win-win imo.

Having said all that, I wouldn't have banned him personally. I'd have thrown him to the wolves in a thread like this and let nature take it's course.
