Sound's like your Council is on the ball Derek. The biggest fook up at Dale farm is the Council failed to nip it in the bud. For all your Council new you could have easily been a Gypsy.

The letter came to our home address, they told us we would have no problem gaining planning permission to put a single caravan on the land but it would cost us ?500.

Three fields away is owned by a guy with a plant hire company, he has his house built on the land & as well as having all his plant there he has about twenty caravans with his Eastern European workers living in them.

It's the fact that they appear to be above the law, or at least consider themselves above it using claims to be a minority that fux me and I'm sure many others off. I also think the council made an arse of this. I'm sure I heard somewhere (and if I didn't and I invented it, I want it to be called Als' Principle, so I'll be famous) that there's a council in England that once the travellers arrive sends in a team consisting of social services, police, DVLA, Custome and Excise and so on. Seems after a short visit by this lot wherever it they are staying becomes not quite what they were loking for and off they fuck. Should be done more often, then if they are decent, law-abiding, tax-paying, school attending members of society they will be welcome. If not...

I also live within the Borough where Dale Farm is, and I object most strenuously to the local council spending up to half their budget to remove people from land they sold them in the first place. Many of the families have been there for a lot longer than ten years and the so called 'houses' are little more than park homes with a wall around.

Yes I own up, Im a bleeding heart liberal who came in contact with lots of the families during my previous career.

The problem with waste disposal and rubbish would be eradicated if the govenment hadnt changed the rules about councils having a legal obligation to provide rubbish collection and utilities

I will get my coat :-0)

Whether the land was sold to them or given to them, there will have been stipulations to the deeds, if I were to just go ahead & build a house on my land the council would make me demolish it & if I refused it would end up in court & I'd lose, the council would demolish the house & charge the costs to me.

Oh that makes their law breaking ok then.

Your previous career obviously didn't involve enforcing the law then.

Sorry but that's bollocks, pikeys have always treated the countryside with total disregard & left rubbish for the council to clear up at our expense when they move on, a few years back several pikeys set up camp on Dewsbury Rugby clubs training ground which was right next to a dumpit site & they couldn't be arsed taking their rubbish there.

I will get my coat :-0)
If a pikey hasn't already nicked it.

The world has gone officially mad.
Travellers who dont travel.
The landed gentry (pikeys) dont legally pay anything back to society, only take.
The only war thats important is the ones that dont concern us.
Im on the wagon!!
Its cheaper to drink petrol.
Im off as soon as the visa is received.
Thank god i can get away from it all with my bird and a good pair of earplugs.

When I were a lad, up here in rural Lincolnshire, proper Romany families visited the area and there was never a problem. Never any mess left and their visits were seen as something a bit special. Everybody was courteous and friendly. There was a distinction between Romany and didicoys. Didicoys were less welcome.
Travellers that visit here now, leave their filth behind and as Karlos says, they are a mobile crime wave.
Where I work we have 3 miles of overland pipelines, the 22" and 24" fuel oil lines are insulated and covered with aluminium wrapping fixed in place by stainless steel bands. Every year when the travellers are here whole sections of the aluminium and the stainless bands are stolen.
These thefts are always reported by us to the police but we never , ever here of any prosecutions let alone convictions.

It must be so frustrating for decent , law abiding citzens to have to put up with the scum that settle in encampments. Just because they have bought or been given land doesn't mean they can ignore all the usual rules and regulations and indeed the laws of the land.
As for celebrity campaigners well.....words fail me.....and legal representation paid for by us the tax payer....well....

Nothing will change though............unfortunately....

We had countless run ins with gypos whilst I was growing up. When they came into my workplace and tried stealing my bike was my fave. I'm certain that particular gypo will still have a limp after 30 years. He did scream, dislocated kneecaps tend to sting a tad ..... "nasty injury that, better get it looked at". :-0)

We only live a couple of miles from Dale Farm too. Live update for AmericanExpress and speedfreakXX is that they are all slowly moving over to Bas Vegas car park....know this as Higgins does security over there, and is p*ssed off as he wanted a quiet shift due to still being shattered from McBash! :bang:

Wonder if either of you are my mystery neighbour to the left who I have never seen?! :k

The dregs at dale farm seem to be Irish travelers, just look at the names that come up on the bottom of the screen when they give an interview, then listen to the accents. Okay 'Irish traveler' go and travel in fucking Ireland.
Romany Gypsies don't exist in the UK anymore, and have long been inbred with other travelers. You can still see Gypsies in Europe. they are a completely different race The men are short with dark skin and small hands. They look like Indians.
I read a book recently published in 1857 (Romany Rye) the author was trying to capture some Gypsy culture as he had found it almost gone even back then.
I live in France. We have Gypsies here obviously. It's a strange sight for a Brit to see the the bin bags lined up neatly outside the local Gypo site on a Thursday.

Last year down in St Etienne they had a similar problem with a large site. The cops moved in and cleared the whole site. I think they cleared 300 illegal camps altogether. If the sites are too big they get too cocky, just like at Dale farm. Fark em orf I say.
