Thanks, I need to have a better look at it, but that sounds like the sort of thing thats been burst, I'll get the cover off tomorrow and have a proper postmortem. I know the clutch cylinder thingy's on the cover, does this come off with the cover no probs?

I would venture to say , you're lucky that is the only Post Mortem you will have been present at recently !!!!

thanks, having trouble getting clutch bit off, but got cover of anyway, the metal surround of the front sproket has an inch size chunk out of it aswell as the cover itself broke. Time to bring out the chemical metal... dont think pushrod bit is damaged as damage tends to be located above as opposed to left of sproket if you were looking at it from the side.

Heard some talk about replacement chains. Anyone got advice on this front saw D.I.D. vx50 chain, that any good? lumpy said something about "sss" chain take it theyre shite...

I've been biking a wee while and...

I have had 5 chains go that I remember. Four dropped on the ground with cosmetic damage. The fifth bastid wrapped around the rear sprocket and had me a month admiring nurses's rear ends. God bless the fifth but they are always sommat to worry about.:-0) look after your chain cos everything goes through it!

I've had chains with more than one split link! Times were hard and anything that fitted was ok. Bikes weren't toys in those days but the only means of transport so whatever kept them going was good. Only ever had one shaftie I can remember.

would not bother with gold.. that is ok if your rich but is an identical chain to the non gold ones but at a higher price..
Also worth mentioning is that there are loads of counterfeit 'gold DID' chains on fleabay,, look like bargains but really are piss poor

DID530ZVMx. Dogs Bollox of a chain. Nice and quiet too. Not cheap though :bow:. Never had one go ever.

Used on all my bikes.

Yes mate.. Carry the DID OEM jobby and the Izumi kit too.. Was a bit worried about the Izumi but after running one for a year myself I decided to put em on the site ( learned a BIG lesson with those feckin knicker elastic SSS things ! ) and they have been a decent seller with absolutely no issues at all
