Woah! calm down calm down! I didn't post this to get that kind of abuse!

And a mechanic didn't say 2k miles ago it was done; I knew this myself without him saying anything.

But then you ride like this;

Yesterday I had the great experience of my chain snapping at just over 100mph whilst accelerating.

Again

Apart from the cosmetics is there anything I should be shitting myself about here?

Beware the second brain cell 8rfl@

Duno, I can shine a torch through it, it's just in from the sprocket cover, looks like the metal's just kinda burst. As far as I can see all that will happen is chain lube will come through the hole if I dont plug it.. I've had engine running and there isn't any oil pissing out anywhere, and seems to go into gear and stuff ok.

if it is a hole in the casing you can bet some has gone into the engine, it will fuck up the gears/engine, if it just the sprocket cover then dont worry

You knew the chain was shagged and you still rode it :bang::bang::bang:. Sorry mate but if your so cash strapped that you can't afford basic maintenance, then biking is not for you.

Fair enough you are right. Hindsight is a wonderfull thing, never had one go before and I've had plenty of large capacity performance machines and done lots of miles without this happening... c7u8

Sorry mate, but your only way forward is engine out, sump off, split the casings and get the hole repaired.
Do make sure all the bits that went IN come OUT while you have it stripped

This might sound like a horrendous job but if you get you digit out it can be done in two days without breaking too much of a sweat @tu*

apologies. I was unaware of the type of abuse you require. Can't stop long, I'm just off to put my knackered brake pads in so my nice new ones don't get dirty  no good blaming the previous owner either. Oh yeah, welcome :k
Hey you're welcome, I could sell you some pads if you want? they're in great nick, or are they? I dont know, never checked, I'll find out one day when they stop working... 8rfl@

sound like the sprocket cover only, you bin lucky. Lesson learnt I hope before you become a statistic. Sprockets cover from any breaker or ebay. Easy to fit.
Yeah def sprocket cover, but there's an area just in from the cover which is burst aswell, I'll find out soon enough I suppose..

Thanks, I will just have to do what I have to I suppose. The hole is above the sproket if that sheds any further light, the cover is broken near the top bolt (on the cover)...

Folks, the important thing to remember in all the banter and slagging off is that he survived to ride another day..so lesson learned. @tu*

Nobody wants to be reading his obituary on this forum.

There but for the grace of god an' all that....

I seem to be really lucky so no danger of that happening :-:!!

I think people are overrating the significance of a chain failing, I'm pretty sure Mr Honda thought about the possibility of this happening and designed in measures in the event of this happening like chain guards etc.. It was very loud, but pretty uneventfull when it happened I just dipped the clutch quickstyle and rolled to a stop. Now gear box failure, that gives me the shits... So on second thoughts I'd better have a good look in there...

I between the front sprocket cover and the engine housing, directly over the front sprocket is (on mine anyway) a steel guide, to in theory prevent casing damage should a chain break.

with respect I think ypu ought to take the bike to your nearest dealer and tell them to take it off your hands as you are obviously too fucking stupid to own one.
Yeah I would but get the feeling theyd want money from me, it's a real minter (or is that munter) of a bike. Do you actually ever ride a bike?, you do know that bikes can be dangerous, it's a scary world out there away from the computer, shit does happen now and again. I pulled the clutch in cause when you hear a big fucking bang and loose drive you hope it's not the gear box disitegrating and the back locking up, so please accept my ignorant "stupidity" for pulling in the clutch....

Thanks, I need to have a better look at it, but that sounds like the sort of thing thats been burst, I'll get the cover off tomorrow and have a proper postmortem. I know the clutch cylinder thingy's on the cover, does this come off with the cover no probs?

From memoery, the answer is 'yes'.

Ignore the muppets on here.........w4lc0m3

Although, to be fair, you have arrived in some style.

Way to go@tu*

As AB said, take it off with the sprocket cover, or take it off separate. I always have to bleed my hydraulic clutch after removing it from the engine... :dunno:.

I'd very much doubt if you've broken the steel guide plate. Few dinks maybe. But my guess is you'll have bent the clutch push rod.

take it off then the cover, you have to take it off to get the cover repaired anyways so do it on the bike.
