2 questions, are all 3 calipers and brake pad sets the same, as in, are the rears the same as the front 2 sets?

Also, anyone dabbled with GoldFren HH - Busters are doing a bike set for ?36...

I was going to order a front set first, then rears after payday, but at that price I could do them all now.

Thanks in advance,.

I had a set of Goldfren's fitted during a service about 5 years ago. I removed them after about 1500 miles as they still felt hard and they never bedded in. I hated them.

I've had OEM and EBC's. EBC's feel good ... in the dry.

I'd personally avoid then if your bike does rain although many still prefer them.

Yeah, very sceptical, but I think the set in there are nearly on the backing!

I was going to go for SBS HH ones, similar to EBC but cheaper, I had them in the ZX-12R and they were good.

oem for me at next change, ebc 2 and wavy discs and rain = shitty pants when you need them to start off with

EBC are scary in the rain - OEM seem to be the answer.

I'll make a call later and see if I can get some info from my brake expert - must be a good aftermarket that works when wet.

I put OEM in a Fireblade before and they were spot on, I mean if they are good enough from the factory, why not carry on, it's just the price at the dealers, must look on Silver's.

I don't really like the HH ones for their initial lack of bite and I did buy this bike to calm down a bit and take the g/f out on.

I better stop being so bloody tight! I did knock cash off the bike to do the brakes and CCT (done) anyway.

Factory OEM pads are approved during type approval testing, but as yet the UK Gov hasn't mandated ECE R90 for replacement bike pads. I'm chasing it up, as there is a wet performance test which I'm sure most replacement pads won't meet.

I have always fitted EBC off jaws, no problems, but then l don't use my brakes much with forward planning... And when I do the braided lines tighten things up nicely.

delinked , braided, wavy discs and ebc2 last pad change approx 25k ago still nowhere nr worn, in the rain they are lethal. When i squeeze the lever i want the bike to slow down by a linked amount to pullage on the lever, not do nothing for 20ft or sometimes feel to speed up.

to answer your initial question, yes they are all the same front and rear.

secondly, why skimp on price of the one component on the bike that just might save your life? EBC HH from Jaws for me and I have no issues, If you still ride at the same speed in the wet as the dry.....WHY? anticipate and leave bigger gaps.

Honda oe ones are different front and rear, not sure but I think the rears are a different hardness. Someone will confirm.

given that modern tyres now give 90% grip in the wet, and no matter how big the gap is if a twat pulls out in front of you why would you want to carry on 20ft or so ?

And yes my pads were from jaws as well as were my discs. oh and another thing leave the bird for 2 weeks and the pads are stuck to the discs, not a problem, they come away with a sharp push.

The first set of ebc hh i got from john were great very impressed, but then i reckon ebc changed something in the pads and for me they have changed for the worst .

that 20ft of extra travel , makes you squeeze hard on the lever then the fooking pads bite and they bite hard, too hard. In the wet they have no feel what so ever.

to the point that if it is raining the SV comes out again cause i know the brakes on that will behave as normal.

my post wasn't a pop at you Chez Wolmeister, and I also suspect that your combination of wavy discs and EBC pads has more to do with your lack of wet weather stoppage, as the wavy discs will proly take longer to heat up and dry all the nasty water out of them before they start to work properly....:dunno:

my comments were a reply to the OP...

i know it wasnt a pop at me :-0). Wavy discs are supposed to clear the water quicker so says all the blah blah, lees this , more that blah blah. truth be know the bird stays at home, most the time it rains now, due to the above lack of feel. Which is a shame as the maxxis tyres are great in the rain, no chance in angles or speeds really.

OK, so there are a few different views here. I don't do much wet weather riding really, but no saying I don't at all.

I see the rear are all the same shape, but maybe diff compounds, the ZX-12R I had lastm still had it's original pads at 20k, they were marked Tokico and HH, which surprised me, being an HH in the rear, but I guess if you're gonna make a bike capable of 150+ then it needs both brakes to work well if wanted.

Personally I only use the back to bring me in line round a bend, or for traffic / junctions etc.

Might just go ahead with the SBS HH ones and save myself ?20 for now - Even at Dave Silver prices, it will cost ?60 for fronts, versus ?60 for 3 pairs of SBS ones.

Everyone else I know who has tried them swears by them over EBCs.

Food for thought. b0x2

Opinions

There are as many opinions as arseholes on here!8rfl@ Seriously though, there is always someone who swears by anything so I believe it is best to go with the majority. Some peeps on here use K&N filters on the bird where just about everyone uses oem.:wank: Same with fully synth oil.:wank: I have ebc on my 400RR and do not notice any probs in the wet. Like Clive though I reckon if I have to brake I have misjudged the corner. I have noticed that ebc do stick on if I leave the bike a week. JAWS has more knowledge than the rest of us put together on Bbirds so I would generally be unwilling to ignore his advice.......when he is sober!8rfl@

so if you think there is something with the way your bike is behaving you will ignore it if everybody else says it aint?

As for the ebc sticking on that is what led me to believe they changed the compound because the first set didnt do that.

Brakes and tyres are the two things that need to work well on a bike LOL, whilst I appreciate money is an issue for most people, I personally would go for the best I could afford I fitted the ones from Busters to my VFR and whilst they were ok, it did seem to suffer with brake fade more. I've just fitted ebc pads to the BB they seem ok though not as good as I would have hoped in the wet. @tu*

I didn't say that Andy.

Merely that no matter how weird an idea is someone on here will support it and say they find it brilliant! Like sealant in tyres!:wank:

You did! First line 8rfl@

K&n work when set up with dyno time and exhausts , rejet etc.

Full synth works for others and has done for many thousands of miles cgeck the yank forum out for results there.

Your cbr4 weighs about 1/3 of the bird and do you have wavy didcs on it as well?

What works for one doesnt alwats work for others mate, same as avon tyres, they are off my lidt now due to funny front wear but others love them.

Bikes are personnel you have to find what works for you and your bike, anc for me nd my bike ebc hh are shit Iin the wet anc avons wear funny so they will not grace my bikes again for a while.
