I think they look fantastic, as do the Blades but i simply don't fit comfotably on them

They only rot if you let them, take care of them and they'll be fine. :yo:

why the Gixer 1000 and not the 750?

joe.....TBH ihad/am also thinking about a 750 gixer, but i ain't seen one worth consideration at a dealers/private.for some unknown reason peeps seem to be hanging on to them  .i ain't in no rush though,so i'll keep on looking.

gonna test ride a blade,arse1 and gixer this weekend(sunday) at a dealers open weekend, but i've also got the pleasure of riding a CBR600rr back from northumberland on saturday for my bro' as he's just bought it via flea bay.i think this will also help me decide as to wether i will get on with the riding position/comfort of a sports bike.

There's a good reason for that mate  The most useable sublime sports bike I've had the pleasure of riding and now owning. It always was a top track bike, but they just had to go and make it comfy enough for road use didn't they?

The Gixer is much more comfortable than you'd expect and it has a very un-sportsbike-like tank range at nearly 200 miles  , but it's still not really comfortable enough for European touring IMHO. Here is a picture of "Snakehips" John on the club Austria tour last year, regularly seen doing this:

The verdict on the enclosed review that compared the Busa with the ZX12 and the K12 actually said that a Gixer is just as comfortable as the Busa  It also said that even the early K12 which was a little rough around the edges(the 06 ones have much better fuelling and a Teflon coated gearbox that is smooth as silk) was the best of the bunch, so now I'll sit back and watch with my popcorn p0pc0rn41 :p

Fair enough but how do you think the Mrs would feel on the pilion seat of a GIXXER 1000?? (no contest)

ZX12R with a tank range of aprox 100 miles and you can't easily fit a tank bag (no contest)

BMW, i rode one on test last year and it was bloody awfull, fly by wire was slow to respond, servo brakes were sluggish to respond, seating position was shit and it felt tiny (no contest)

For 'ME' the only copetition for the BUSA is the BIRD, which i owned for 3 years..
My BUSA is very comfy thanks, i have added 'BUELL' footpegs which lowers them aprox 1 1/2" giving me ample room, i also have a double bubble so the bits that the 'MCN Comic' were knocking it for are sorted.

Mine was under ?8k on the road.........the BMW is nearly ?2k dearer.

I agree with you about the pillion thing, a gixer is not for a pillion, notwithstanding the fact that taking a pillion badly messes up the handling on a light-weight sports bike. Of all of them, I think the Bird is the most pillion friendly, especially with a bagalux or other aftermarket seat, but that's just MHO.

I'm afraid that I agree with the review I posted on the K12. I first rode one on a club trip to Scotland and was blown away with the sublime ride quality. The thing really handles and, with the additions of an aftermarket can (which on the K12 also removes the CAT) has more power and torque than a standard ZX12 or Busa (see below), so there is nothng in it power wise.

comparison.jpg

The suspension on the K12 is so good that just took the production bike lap record at the Nurbergring (7 min 57 secs) beating the R1's record by 12 seconds! And that's from a comfy sports tourer  . The ability to adjust the suspension whilst riding in order to match poor or smooth road surfaces is also an amazing. Anyway, I was so impressed, I bought one :p . I was in France with it this weekend and I still can't stop grinning, it's the best bike I've ever owned by a long way.

The reality is, we are spoilt 'cos modern bikes are all so damn good, but I really think the K12 has moved the game on 5 years and that's a good thing, because you can bet that the pressure will be on Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki to respond with something very soon.

P.S., did you know that we have a Busa site. In fact, Snakehips (aka GixerJohn) in the Gixer picture above has just bought one.

Each to their own really WIZ but i didn't enjoy the BMW experience at all so that, aswell as the purchase & service cost drove it waaaay out of the equasion.

Seriously, the ZX12R would have been sat in my garage now had it not had such a poor fuel range and better pillion provision.

The Blackbird in almost all reviews V's BUSA comes out with a lower score on the handling and depreciates at the same rate if not quicker.

The BUSA for me is ideal now i've made some custom tweeks.
Superb pillion seat, your sat in it, not on it, the screen is good now, the pegs are just right now, the power is oh soo :lick: and i like the look.
My next investment may be a centre stand.

If something comes out in the next year or so that suits me better then i may change but for now i really do like the GIXXER 1300

Just seen the chart re the BMW with the can added...................fair enough, now add a can to the BUSA  , lets play fair here or not at all.

Lets talk standard bikes out of the crate, you spend ?500 on ya BMW and i'll spend it on my ABUSER

DEVIL carbon system wil add a claimed 14bhp to the BUSA and i can get one for ?520 complete (inc matched front pipes)

I know that I wasn't comparing like with like, that's why I showed the K12 before and after fitting a can. I was just showing that there is nothing to speak of between them power-wise. You do get particularly good value from fitting a can on a K12 because the CAT is in the end can, and of course, you only need one, so my Staintune cost me only ?260 not ?500. Also, don't forget that the BMs only need servicing every 6000 miles, 50% less often than the BUSA and BIRD, and you'll never have to buy a new chain and sprockets, or clean all the crap off the back of a bike from chain fling :-: , so there are a few other up sides to ownership.

At the end of the day, we all passionately defend our bike choices because they are all great bikes. I'd not be crying for too long if I woke up to find a new Bird, Busa or ZX12 in my garage. One last thing about the ZX12, my mate rode one on our trip to Spain in 2003. As we were on our own, we kept up a "brisk" pace to say the least, and he was still getting 150 miles from his tank before he hit reserve, so I'm kinda surprised by your range comments :dunno: I wonder if the one you experienced had something wrong with it, if so t might be worth a second look. You certainly get a lot of bike for your money if you buy nearly new or a "last years" model  .

Interseting thread. Having spoken to bert recently it's fair to say he's out of the running. But me boat goes up for sale pretty soon so I'll have a piece of the action towards late summer. Anybody mind if I use a bog standerd gixxer 6???

And just to even things up a bit, why dont we do it at Snetterton. A good power circuit or even Thruxton which should suit ya busa i.e. flat out most of the way round.

Better get me arai out of storage.

Rhino .. i agree with everything you've said about the busa .. it really is a good all round bike .. i tried loads of bikes before i got the busa .. the last choice was between the blackie .. or busa .. the blackbird is a good bike .. BUT .. its not a busa .. hehehe me and the Mrs tried them back to back .. and from the pillions point ov view the busa wins .. (her opinion) i nearly got the bird .. but the mrs put her foot down for the busa .. and i'm glad she did .. hehed04l1ng %$fan

Well whats up wi Rhino, thought he would be up for the chance to kick my arse. Given the fact that I cant stand him and his over inflated ego. Come on son you were prepared to take on a dickie bird so a little gixer's gonna be easy.

The Arais out the bag, and a fresh set of sliders are ready to be purchased. might have to go to the gym tho, leathers are a bit tight at the mo, after all it's been a while since I rode a bike
