Tailgator......

It wasn't a sign saying 'PLEASE remove it before paying' it was a signing ORDERING the removal!!
The reason for the request is why i kicked off not merely the fact that it was an order..!

Ah I see ................. so I take it from that statement that you also refuse to pay your council tax because it states on the bill in large bold letters ........

COUNCIL TAX DEMAND

and then waffles on with threats about what will happen if you don't pay implying that all motorcyclists don't pay their taxes.

Good to see someone standing up to some of the injustices we face in the real world. :} :} :}

All degrees of perception init, one mans windmill is another mans joke........... eh Don Quixote ...............

I think there is more than enough genuine injustice and inequality, discrimination , exploitation etc etc etc going on about us which the overwhelming majority of peeps are quite willing to turn a blind eye to coz it don't affect their particular soapbox. So in the much larger picture of life being asked to remove your helmet on private property by representatives of the owner of that property pales into insignifigance .................... don't like the ownres policy .........
move on ........... go else where ............ you have that freedom ........... just like the owner has the right and freedom to make the request, it is in no way discrimination because for it to become discrimination other groups of people ie car drivers, pushbike riders, pedestrians would have to wear helmets and then be exempted from removing them whilst bikers were not.

Oh right so its not descriminating against those Muslim school kids then when told to remove their headwear.............because in your eyes ALL the other kids would have to wear the same and the Muslims be singled out to make it descriminatory.. errrr NO!

You tell that to the courts then when the cops get hauled over the coals for removing a Rastafarians hat whilst he's in custody...
LOL

"Sorry Mi Lord but Skippy says your wrong, according to him we only descriminated against him if we all wore RAGGA hats and only took his off."

If the law was equal and unbiased yes that would indeed be the case...........

asking for exemption from the rules because you belong to a particular group is discrimination. whether you dress it up as being anti gay anti Muslim anti disabled anti racist it is all the same ........... discrimination. If your kid is asked to remove his hat in school and a Muslim or Jew is allowed to keep his / hers on then that is discrimination pure and simple to the letter of the law.

A couple of years ago one of our mixed race prisoners applied for permission to wear one of those tea cosy type hats,
the Governor dealing with the request asked another member of staff what the cap was like
He was informed " It is like the one that Eddie Murphy wears"
The governor replied "well which Governor gave Eddie Murphy permission to wear one"

BUT, we are being told to remove them because 'MOTORCYCLISTS COMMITT THE ROBBERIES' thats the reason TESCO gave, they are painting me with a very heavily tarred brush.

I'm a cop not a robber, don't categorise me, i'm a free person.
C'mon Skip, your out numbered, the thread is even on IXXRA and i'm winning on there too.......... :yo: AV IT!!

Ah so the sign referred to you personally then ........ by name :dunno:
I find it impossible to be offended, or angered by a general statement aimed at no one in particular, they are just words I know they don't refer to me ........ they don't know me they can't possibly make any kind of judgement on me.

An armed robbery has never been committed by a cop then :dunno: armed robbers don't have the words ARMED ROBBER tattooed on their forheads but they do quite often hide their features with masks, hoods and yes shock horror motorcycle helmets.

I have never been one to run with the pack and despise mob mentality, while I'm still capable of independant thought I will never allow myself be browbeaten into comprimising my principles and beliefs to satisfy peer group pressure.

I think if this vote went to a general referendum outside the biking world then we could well see a law being passed whereby all helmets would have to be removed, at every filling station, general public would not listen to the argument put forward by motorcyclists, all they would see is a protest against what they perceive as a simple request.
I may be wrong but I don't think tesco's are about to change their stance on this one, so the thing to do is boycott their filling stations.

A thought has just occured to me if tesco's issue is about faces on camera, then why don't they instruct all passengers to get out of the vehicle whilst at the pumps.
someone could quite easily be sat in the back of a car with a shotgun and then rob the store as they approach to pay for the fuel

keep it on

never taken my helmet off to pay at petrol station , never will. the law says i MUST WEAR AN HELMET therefore i WILL WEAR AN HELMET . They can clearly see I am filling up with petrol, not carrying a shot gun and so should be gratefull for my hard earned cash. One point for rhino, i agree with all the comments you have made, however, i have been pulled by the cops on occassions to inspect my bike, and I have refused to remove my helmet when asked to as they are checking the bike , not me. do you agree with this or do you think i should have removed my helmet?.

Odd one this and a very good point, as it is the LAW to wear a helmet then that is your reason for having it on,, the cops have a right to identify you as you are in charge of a motor vehicle on a road. If the only way to identify you is by an I.C. (identifying characteristic) on you head/face then they do have a right to remove the helmet to confirm i.d.
There is many forms of i.d they can use prior to this point i.e Voters check, PNC if your known previously and the list goes on.
If you do not have docs with you, you committ an offence, no docs and unverified i.d you'll get nicked for S25 Pace for no insurance, mot (if its over 3yrs) and licence.
If your docs are there they cannot lock you up unless you caused a moving traffic violation or if there was defect on the vehicle and they still couldn't i.d you.... If there's no i.d then they cannot summons you for the offence so you'll get nicked..
I would remove the helmet voluntarily to aid the LAWFULL identity and avoid un-necessary detention, they'll remove it by force if need be at the nick anyway + ?125 for recovery of the bike etc.
Watch someone more upto date come and shoot me down :bandit:

and so it goes on

Being on Hols in singapore I have just read this thread from the start. Whatever peeps opinions it has made engaging reading and it is nice to know we still live in areas of the world where this sort of conversation can take place. Most of my riding is relatively fair weather but I have ridden in both Australia and at home and I can assure you, Rhino, that the rain is much harder in Oz and they dont have hail-damaged car sales for nuthin! Despite the cold - and the general attitude at Tescos - I prefer riding in UK (in the summer of course coz I iz a suthern shandy drinkin person LOL). So guys - chill out for Xmas!!!!!!!!!!
