Are they any good, is it worth swapping from the old 550 ?? Anything I should think about before getting one please.

no idea mate sorry. Only had my 660 for about 5 years or so and it's always just worked reliably including being taken down under

Had one for a while. Used all over UK & Europe. No problems at all. Unlike TomTom. Good piece of kit,

I swapped up from the 550 to 660 because I got a good deal. The 660 has a bigger screen(wider) but because I always have the direction I'm going in as up it makes little difference. Its easier to get at the battery, (possibly) and memory card.
I think the 550 is a better shape to look at on the bike, but the 660 might be better in the car.
TBO I wouldn't bother, sell it and use your phone!
The only reason I've kept mine is because I was stupid and bought the lifetime updates just before phones got better for navigation.

I had a 550, then a 660 and now I'm on a 590LM.

If you can afford it, ignore the 660 and go straight for the 590LM

One of the biggest issues I had with the 660 was the internal memory wasn't big enough for the Garmin update, so it had to be stored on a memory card and that slowed everything down....a lot. Re-calculating a route sometimes took ages.

The 590LM has addressed most if not all of the old 660 issues ( unreadable in direct sunlight for instance ) and it's a much faster processor, can can actually do a lot more, without chugging to a halt.

I have a 550 and a 660
Both work well but I do prefer the 660.. it is faster when doing route changes, destinations, and is easier to add all the weird and wonderful POI's I use ( such as LPG, Aires, stelplatz etc etc

Finally done it, went and bought a 660, easy, as most Garmin are, to start up, the only difference's I can see is the shape "obviously" and this one has a qwerty board rather than sliding back and forth along the alphabet!! which was a right pain, I'm looking at how to delete the stock pictures, I've already downloaded a load of music on to a micro sd card, it came with a 4gb Sandisk so I swapped it for a 32gb one, I should get all of the music Rolfie Dave has sent me as well as most of my own, I just hope I get the time to ride the bloody bike this year, what with being too ill and skint in the past few years to do it any justice. :dunno:

Check settings about the keyboard format. On my 590 you can swap which layout you have so likely same on yours.

How many tanks of fuel could you get for the price of that toy? Last time I looked we still had road signs! 8rfl@

A lot, probably Bill, and it's only a matter of time until "our" road signs are multi lingual like wot them Welsh one's are!! :dunno: besides I tend to use the twat nav to find the final address which is often not easy to spot, "Taffy's" for instance, I can get to his village easily, but I'm buggered finding his actual road!! :dunno:

I tried speaking Welsh once, but I ran out of spit half way through.

We would be pretty stuffed in the van without one that's for sure..
Really difficult to find LPG in some countries :-(

Also trying to find some of the tiny little aires de service would be impossibly time consuming without a gps !

Around 14 but that's not the point :)

Prices have dropped, mine was well north of ?400 5 or so years ago but I don't regret spending ?1 of that
