A clever move to make the unemployed now appear to be employed but with no wages.
But how does it affect the unemployment figures?
If someone who has been working for a company for many years & has a good work & attendance record suddenly finds themselves on a zero hours contract but has not been used for a while, will they be allowed to claim any benefits? basically I see it as a way that employers can lay people off without it costing the Government anything & the person who has contributed over the years suddenly finds themselves with no income & no way of obtaining one but slackers who have never worked a day in their life are in clover. I really hope I am reading it wrong but it doesn't look good.

I always understood casual labour to be people working via an agency going where they were needed on the day, Zero hours contract I believe to be direct employment with the company cutting out the agency.
