I've worked with most of the major brands and LG is pretty good gear..... The technology among the brands is pretty similar - although Hitachi have come up with a few nice tricks in the last year.

The new LCD model I referred to isn't on the market yet. It will be released in Jan of 2006 so look out for it..... I've seen it in Japan and I can tell you it's fucking amazing to see it displaying a 1080i movie :bow:

Plasma - Just so long as you don't get image retention on a plasma panel - you're ok.

But LCD will always win over plasma - Q.E.D.

And I rate Plasma about the same as Adam does, and also reckon he is spot on with the LCD thing too.. If I could have got a 44" LCD for the same money as I paid for the LG I proly would have gone that way..

I have seen the 42" Sharp LCD in Japan (dunno what the model number is in the UK due to different market ID's) but it was pretty shit-hot! And it'll set you back a fucking large wedge of wonga...........!

The Hitachi 37LD6000 is a nice bit of kit - just ask for it in any decent store...

Just make sure anything you buy is a 1080i LCD panel and you'll not be disappointed with the picture - but remember, you can only enjoy true 1080i (HDMI) images if your input into the TV is 1080i.... The UK does broadcast some channels in 1080i and there are some stores selling HD DVD's - but you'll need a High Definition DVD player (about 100 Quid for a chinese model)

Don't be disappointed if the image is crap while watching a standard DVD.... The input HAS to be 1080i in order to wet your jeans over a truly amazing 1080i image

Sorry for the late reply FUK.........

We had a 2 day public holiday here in Dubai and it coincided with my weekend (4 days off ain't a bad thing!)

To sum up the question:

Most of the LCD's you buy these days all work on very similar principles.... Here what to look for:

1. Basically, you should look out for any LCD TV that displays true 1080i images (i.e. the screen resolution is XGA - minimum)
2. The inputs into the panel should be 1080i compatible (HDMI, Composite, Component Y Pb Pr, etc..)
3. The delay time of the panel should be low i.e. 84ms or less
4. The contrast ratio should be as high as possible - 10000 to 1 or better
5. The panel should be able to display billions of colors
6. Any aesthetic feature that makes your dick hard

So - anything that has those attributes is worth looking at (and also depends on your un-touchable bank balance)
