I agree that the latest TDi's are excellent in the torque/economy dept, what I dislike is the the 2000rpm of usfeul engine revs ie. 2000-4000rpm. Thats why all the so called GTi diesels have a 6 speed box - which you have to 'stir' at a very tedious rate. An auto tranny is the answer - I tested the DSG audi autobox recently, it's amazing, 7 speed preselector box with electric clutches (no torque convertor).

As for Euro 3 - thats old hat, most company car drivers are now looking for Euro 4 compliant cars. Euro 4 is Euro 3 plus particulate filtering. There are two types of particulate filter, one costs money to run (you have to dose the fuel with a chemical to burn the soot in the filter) the other type requires no additives.

There's already a big push to reduce CO emmisions via down to company car tax, the less CO the car produces the lower the tax. You also get a bigger tax break for a Euro 4 car.
