Bird came out of the garage today.

First movement since Donington in October-ish.

She's sat on her side-stand since then = not even the engine turned over..............

Front brakes were a little sticky [typical Honda issue] BUT
after a handful of fresh petrol - full choke - fired after the third turn of the starter motor.

Now you tell me what bike manufacturer [or car for that matter] could produce a quality piece of kit that, after 3 months of "neglect" would fire up like that?

Quality Build - quality parts. Glad I own a Bird !!!

Just a pity with all that sunshine today - the roads were covered in ice - still she did the mandatory 1/2 mile down the road - to free up the brakes - no helmet - no gloves - no coat - bugger was it cold!!

Roll on Spring [and Monza in May]

30 minutes later, Cyclops rode up - in desperate need of a cup of tea and a thaw out!! Brave Man :)

Hang on...

if it was a tin box, then I personally would expect it to be able to be left - just as I had stepped out of it - in the open for a couple of months ( it not been too cold untill the last couple of days) and then have it start almost immediately, without having to add fresh petrol.

Honda certainly do seem to have to best build quality, but all that mean is that the others are at best, bloody poor.

The majority of sports bikes have got rid of the poor (japanese) chrome but still have ali and steel bits that corrode and rust with the slightest sniff of road salt.

Come on Bert, you hear of people finding things in barns, under piles of straw and chicken shit, that hasn't moved for 30 years. They check the plugs and points, chuck in some fresh petrol, and amazingly the thing starts. AND they are not EVEN a Honda.

good looking AND modest
i stil wonder why

most car makers including honda, give at least 6 years anti rust warrenty yet to even suggest the same for a motor bike is almost heresy, yet we pay almost or in some cases more for our bikes than some cars, i think it stinks and tell everyone i can, what do you lot think

keep the rubber side downR#?

Fair points lads~~

just expected a bit more effort would be required on my part!

Recently did a visit to a Rolls Royce Restorers [probably the largest in the world - certainly the UK]

Amazing that a vintage "Roller" complete with WOODEN Upper Frame, had been discovered in a barn in Wales - had been there for over 40 years - chickens had lived in it for years - you can imagine the mess?

Fresh leaded petrol, new plugs, squirt of WD40 - bloody fired first time!!!!!

As a matter of interest the new owner [inherited the Rolls along with the Farm/farmhouse] was spending some wonga getting the car professionally restored.

Main question was "How Much?"

Wait for it.......

18 months lead time and approximate bill of ?120,000

You Fooken

soft Poooooooooooffffffffth:lol:

Nearly 3 months you have left your bike in the garage.

Call yourself a biker:lick: Fooken slacker

Get togged up and give the Bird and blast out once or twice a week.

Was not too bad although at 150 ish on the A50 it got a wee bit chilly. Then I thought better of it and slowed down as the thought of an instant bann and having the Bird taken off me was not good.

Thanks for the extra large cuppa:beer:

Now lets get a ride out sorted even if its only over to Matock for a look at all the new bikes we cant afford

Glad to hear someones bike started today.
Tried mine thismorning after leaving it for only a fortnight &
nothing !!!, completely dead.
Took a while to bump it of down the road but i got it going in the end.
After blasting around for about 30 miles i thought i might have charged it up enough but the battery has completely had it.
Any advise on how i can over come this?.
I have heard allot about these charger things but i have no power in the garage so i am a bit stuck. Is there any little tricks i can do to solve the problem because i do not want to buy another battery just to have it happen again !!.

Moog~~

if you have an alarm fitted, this will drain the battery.

Best option, by far, appears to be Optimate which will trickle charge the battery as and when it's needed - people swear by them.

From experience, if ya batteries buggered...chuck it away and buy a new one!

Forget the cheap "economy" batteries - buy an original Yuasa [?]
I got mine from Halford - but at ?70 they aint cheap!!

And a piccie just for The Kebab Man

Hi Fat Bert, Aidey calling for the first time.
Read your stuff about furry fasteners and the like, and read all about it in the bike mags too. Now, a funny thing is that about a year ago I bothered to look under the bonnet of my 3 year old Primera just before it went back to the lease company and what did I see? Furry alloy nuts and bolts just like on a bike. Your post made me go and have a look on my six month old Octavia (the fast one) and already under the bonnet some of the fittings are dulling off, just like on a bike. I reckon that with a car all anyone ever sees is just the outer paintwork cos not much of the working gubbins is on show but with a bike most of its there for all to see.
Not making excuses for the makers, cos an 8 grand bike deserves a bit of protection, but possibly it's more about our expectations than anything else. What reckon you?

Hi Aidey~~

welcome on-board from Sunny Bath

Fair point you make EXCEPT how many people clean nuts and bolts UNDER the bonnet of a car? Only buggers ever to look at them [apart from owners] are garage mechanics - and do they give a chuff?

Now on a bike, we clean, we polish, we buy microfibre cloths, we "wax lyrical" about Auto-Glymm this and Mer that to our hearts content.

Why?

Cos we take a pride in our steeds - we want peeps to stop - look - admire.

So if, as owners, we take that much pride, why don't the major manufacaturers take note and supply decent quality fixing and fasteners?

After all when people stop - look - admire........
what wordsa re they reading on the side?

"HONDA" - to me that's bloody good advertising!!
and
as Cyclops rightly pointed out, with the buying power of Honda, stainless fixings on a entire ?8K bike would prolly be less than a fiver!!

Make sense?

to return to the point..........

get a big f'*k off, lots of amp hours car battery, (about 30 of our british pounds), two lengths of wire, 4 crocodile clips, when you leave the bike for more than a couple of days, connect the batteries together and the big battery will piggy back power for your bike battery. (disconnect b4 starting!), easy - probably>
