I've always worked on the principal that a ?30 helmet that fits is better than a ?300 helmet that doesn't.....hence my choice of the ?45 AGV over my ?160 Lazer Revolution for most of me riding. :}

And the Lazer actually fitted fine for months....but then the padding settled. Bloody shame, cos it's quite a good lid. :B

Total agreement with ya. the Lazer is a brilliant helmet, but the padding has compacted, so what to do?

so I bought another one :lick:

They are great lids, Mike....but I found the sizing strange. I normally buy a medium/large in most makes of helmet, but the Lazer was a small and seemed to fit great from the word go. But over time the padding settled and now it feels too loose to be safe.

Found it a tad heavy.....but loved the sunshield and the jet-fighter mask !!!! :bow:

I have a Lazer which I stoppedusing because the visor is too easily scratched but I bought a new set of inners when the origionals settled too much.

Shoei are still the best.

And the X-Spirit is the best of those, followed by the Z-One.

Once again, a so-called "Expert" forcing his own opinions on everyone else.

Personally my head shape suits neither Shoei or Arai. I have tried them all, caberg, HJC, roof, Shark, AGV, Bieffe, Uvex, Schuberth, lazer, OGK, etc, etc. The one that I have found that fits the best is AGV. Did have an OGK Aeroblade, nice lid but by christ it was noisey.

If looking for a new lid, dont be fooled in thinking that cos its expensive it'll do the job better. Half the time a ?30 lid from Aldi's will do the job just as well, if not better, than a ?500 lid.

Just out of curiosity, why do people think that a ?500 lid is better than a AGV V-Flyer, like mine which was ?200 or a X-Speed which is ?89???

If you have an ?89 head, buy a lid accordingly.

I paid ?45 for my AGV at this years BMF Show.......Trace reckoned that my head ain't worth THAT much !!!!! :} :}

You KNOW what I mean Steve. Don't let's twist things.

Only joking Mac. :} :}

I've never owned an Arai or a Shoei lid......so I can't comment on the 'top of the line' helmets.

I started out my biking days with the likes of Everoak, Cromwell and Stadium lids and progress through Bieffe, Caberg, Lazer and now, AGV. The AGV is quieter than all those I've had before and with the Fog City it doesn't mist up too badly.

Maybe I'll try one of the 'Big Two' one day......but I live in hope I'll never have to test the merits of crash survival. :}

Go get Bert to feck you up the arse limpdick! Some of us have better things to do on a weekend than to camp in front of the PC.

Let me see now. Materials, quality, manufacture. visor mechanism, venting, consistency, finish, aerodynamics, visor material, race proven, and so on.

Materials. A ?500 lid is made to the SAME standards as a ?80 lid. Has the same quality tests to pass, composites are the same, GRP will be made the same way. Doesnt work, that one.

Quality?? How come I know of several people that have bought fancy Expensive lids, believing the bullshite about more money=better goods. within weeks I know of two outta three Arais that had gone back with chinstrap problems. In fact didn't Wiz's lid loose its chinstrap during his accident??

Manufacture? If they are that good, why does Arai tour the race circuits with their onsite repair truck? How come Arai are the only manufacture, (THAT I KNOW OF), that recommend changing lids every 5 years or sooner?

Race proven, Awww c'mon.....Rossi wears AGV fer christsake. Even HJC has made it into WSB and BSB.

Consistancy and finish. I have no qualms about the finish on the Shoeis and Arais. Its just as good as my lesser AGV and OGK, (Which was even cheaper).

Venting. Most lids now have the same amount of vents so thats not an issue here.

Visor mechanism. Having never experienced the Shoei pinlock, I will reserve judgement.

Aerodynamics. Yup, they're all aerodynamic. My OGK was a good one for that, the fin on the back helped "Head shake" no end, Still no reason to spend ?500

Visor material. Is this how the "big two" can justify charging twice as much for one of their visors due to "Quality"?? Wont the Shoei and Arai scratch in the same way? Dont they chip form a stone in just the same way? Do they make you tea and toast in the morning, will they shout at other road users to get out of your way?? No.

Still havent convinced me that A) I should spend ?500 just cos you say
Shoei are still the best.
because personally and IMHO, (Which I believe the forum is all about), they aint!

Shit fer brains!

Your monologue proves my point that Shoei are the best and Arai are second rate.

I liked my Boeri Driver all those years ago. Good visor and mech. Lots of good lids around, not too many bad ones. It's been fun.

Ride safe Blubba.

PS. The on-site race support is for many things, not really running repair. They fit visors, interiors, claen and discinfect, modify visors for different race conditions etc. Shoei have the unilaterally agreed best visor mechanism and I am firked if I know how they justify the cost either.

Who EXACTLY ?
no fannying around just proof
i realise being an consultant engineer your used to steering your veiws towards whoevers paying the bills but surely your not being sponcered by Shoei ? and Bob

And anyway, best for what? Some are good for racing and the power rangers sunday riders blast-types, some are good for miles munchers... So, at the end of the day, Schuberth S1 are the best ever, at least everybody agrees on that! w;;v

Both Arai, and Shoei, keep the labour in Japan instead of cheap unskilled labour in the other countries and this ensure quality control etc. unlike the cheaper lids. So YES. I do bloody know so get off my case.
i only bloody asked !!
whats up you been to Cambridge or summat?

Second best compared to my X-Spirit according to RiDE.
Ah may well be - according to RIDE... but does the X-Spirit have a proven track record of saving people's skulls - twice? Schuberth S1 has: mine and a guy I know... So you will understand that I bought an S1 to replace the one that saved me! BTW does the X-Spirit have an inside dark visor? Because beside looking mean and cool and very cool, it actually is immensely practical! But if you love it and trust your life with it that's the main thing :beer:
