The q box is wireless & requires a different dish, unlike previous sky you don’t own the dish & box.
They were pestering me to change from “ordinary Sky” to get a Q box - so much so that I told them to feckorf and cancel my subscription - instead I got 2 new “ordinary” boxes and a new dish and quad lnb. I love getting older and being a proper miserable bastard! 
No one mentioned a new dish, I guess that it means new wiring, which will mean having to move a lot of furniture so the engineer can access where the wires come into the house?
I'm not paying for the box anyway.

surely if it needs a satellite dish, you need wires to connect to the box?

I am now sat laughing imagining a pair of pants hanging from the side of a house.
That's a bit of misnomer, Dezza. It's only wireless insofar as it doesn't need a physical connection to a wifi router. Other than that, it's anything but wireless; our Q box has a power cable, an HDMI lead to the TV and another HDMI to the surround system.
Not sure if/when it's happpening here - Sky were/are in the process of updating all users in Italy with wifi boxes last year - no dish required.
A lot of the stuff on the Q Box uses wifi i.e. Downloads, but you are right that the 'live' stuff comes via the dish. You are also correct that the LNB needs updating to get the benefit of Q - the LNB has four 'receibers' rather than two. The good news is that if there is already two cables from the LNB to the existing box that is all that is needed for Q. And a second box requires no hard connection to the main box.

if you had changed to Q the new card would not have worked in you pace box in the van!
yes, very true, but I didn’t want to further confuse Minkey. Not that the box will be of much use as we’re having to change holiday location yet again. First it was France, FCO say don’t go there. Then it was Norway, now Norway don’t want Brits from 22nd Aug. So unless it all goes tits up destination will be germany and maybe Italy.
