Cutting taxes and putting back NI where it was doesn't help people who don't earn enough to pay taxes or NI it only helps those high earners who pay a lot of tax
It might not help those who don't pay tax and NI, but it's a start. Obviously, the more one earns the more tax and NI is paid, but there are plenty of people on middle income that a cut in any tax is going to help.

I think you are missing the point those on low wages are the ones who need help to buy the basics like food and heating, so a tax cut that only really helps those who are on middle or higher wages is the wrong way to go, and the middle and higher earners wont be paying more tax they will be paying less

Personally I would like to see a cut in VAT, even if only on a temporary basis. That is essentially a ‘spending tax’ where a cut would benefit everyone and stimulate spending which increases the velocity of money in the economy which is usually a very good thing. However, the downside is that it would normally be regarded as fuelling inflation and that is the last thing we need at present. However, the high inflation rates we are seeing at present are fuelled (no pun intended) by am unusual factor in totally out of kilter energy prices so I am not sure what the impact would be.

I've worked out that it's cheaper to spend the winter in the Maldives than to switch the heating on. I'm surprised nobody else has thought of it.

Judging by the state of our garden it’s cheaper to get fined £1000 for using the hosepipe than it will be to replace all the stuff that is dying.

See now you're thinking. See you in the Maldives then!
I haven’t been but have friends who go quite often - first time they went - some time ago- it was ‘all inclusive’ in as much as they got US$100 each ‘allowance’ for food and drink. They didn’t appreciate a can of Coke would cost $8 and US$100 would go nowhere near covering the cost of an evening meal. Don’t know if it’s got any better since then.

We have a few days in a friends really nice static caravan thing near Sandwich next week…that’ll do for the moment…although Lanzarote keeps calling louder for the autumn.

Not just Ireland, many Doctors are going to Australia as soon as they’ve qualified

On the news last night one report was bemoaning the shortage in NHS staff, something like 12,000 new staff needed to run the hospitals at the current poor level

The next item was a report saying the muppets in power had decided to build 40 new hospitals by 2030

Anybody else see a problem here?
