We're off to Portugal on Sat'day am, early, now thats got to be better than here at this time of the year..
Well, we were off to Portugal this month, but now we've gotta go to Cape Town on Saturday for a court case. As the company's paying for the flights, we thought we'd stay on a bit, it's spring over there now.........
Back on 19th. Will let you know what Table Mountain's like. And Supa, you can hire a Harley out there.

The mountains!

Despite the fact that I left a fair sized chunk of my leg up one, I can't wait to get back. I love the great roads, the lack of people (and traffic) the little restaurants and, if you know where to look, some of the hotels are far better than many top coastal resort ones.

Love the West Country...but always prefered Brixham if I was staying in the Torbay area. Anywhere from Somerset down to Cornwall was great, though.
Will always have a 'soft spot' for Looe on the Cornish coast.

These days it has to be Icmeler/Marmaris in Turkey for our holidays. :lick:

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Best time ever! Just returned from two weeks at St Nicholas Park Hotel and already booked to return next year, same two weeks. We have never been back to the same place on holiday but just got to go back to St Nicks. It was our first time in Turkey and we werent sure what to expect. The people are so kind and helpful, just make you feel so welcome to their country. All the staff at St Nicholas Park are fantastic.

The bar staff were a great laugh, had us in fits of laughter all the time, especially Big Sal, loved his dancing to Tarkan's Kiss Kiss! A special mention too for Sahlil, cheeky monkey, what a laugh! The restaurant guys were brilliant too, couldnt do enough for us.

Our room was cleaned every day, it was spotless, made sure we left our maid a decent tip as she really looked after us, bless her. The pools were busy but then it was august, had to get up early to reserve our sunbeds. We went to the private beach on the free bus service a few times and it was lovely. Swimming in the Blue Lagoon, even saw a turtle one day.

We went in to Hisaronu in the evenings alot but found that the food in the hotel was just as good, if not better and alot cheaper! We had lovely meals in The Olive Tree, although this was quite expensive. Had a great evening at Robin Hood, the waiters there were very attentive, especially to our two teenage daughters! Went to Fethiye market one day, what an experience! Such a laugh though, all the market traders telling us that their goods were cheaper than Matalan, cheaper than Oxfam but the best one was cheaper than shoplifting!! Went on a couple of trips with Hamish McTurk, excellent value.

I cant praise Turkey and its people enough, we went there not knowing what to expect and came home feeling so sad to be leaving such a lovely place with the kindest friendliest people we have ever met. Cant wait to return next year. Just a word of warning, if you dont like heights, then close your eyes on the coach transfer from the airport to Hisaronu!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

HOTEL: supurb location, high in the mountains with a fantastic view over olu deniz beach. surrounded by pine trees(be carefull as the cones are the weight of small apples!)we had one thrown at us by some dutch children. there are six blocks all ideally situated around the pools and entertainement areas. basic but clean accomodation. the restuarant has an al a carte menu which is splendid. there is an outdoor cafe which is used from 12 until 4pm. the only downfall about the st nicholas park is the prices. we had 8 friends staying in the sister hotel st nicholas gardens and we couldnt believe it when we lunched there. all alcoholic drinks and snacks were noticably cheaper.
breakfast was nice, although the children did moan. the bar staff were great fun, and they made the childrens holiday.

ENTERTAINMENT:

weekly bbq with belly dancer, which was great fun. we had to pay which did include all beverages up until 12 oclock.great value if you are an adult, but if you have teenagers who are finicky eaters is not worth the money.
magic night was quite good.
there was also dancers, latin and also breakdancers which the kids loved

POOLS:

two great pools, the smaller one having two water slides. theese are not put on often, both about twice a day. be carefull on the big slide as there is only one person at the top supervising. and no one at the bottom to signal it is safe to go. there were a few accidents one being myself! who crashed into my friend half way down(thats after telling the kids to be careful)

THE VILLAGE:

it is quite a trek down to hisaronu, but you can always get a cab back up! around?4 depending if before or after midnight. many bars and restaurants, the best we found were the st nicholas park hotel, the vineyard, the olive tree, and oasis. for the shopaholics like our friends sue and traci you will be in shoppers heaven. anything you buy will be altered on the spot in 10 minutes free of charge.

THE BEACH:

a coach picks you up at either 10 or 11 in the morning, then you have to go to the other hotels to pick up other pasengers. if you are staying at the st nicholas gardens hotel you will often not be able to get on, but another bus is called immediately. the bus takes you right onto its private beach, which is on the lagoon. small but not too busy, we could always get a sunbed. the lagoon is truley beautiful, you dont realise until you go out on the pedalos and see the view.take beach shoes as some areas are quite stony.

EXCURSIONS:

jeep safari. we visited yaka park, which we never got to see as daryl cut her foot and needed 10 stitches. this was in a mountain cold pool which the guides encouraged you to go in! after a detour to a remote medical centre we were back on our way. we went to saklikent canyon which was the highlight of my holiday, i just wish we had more time there, then off to the mud baths, which is great fun, but when its time to wash it off, you have to do so in freezing cold spring water. from there we went to xanthos which was commerated as the place where its inhabitants commited mass suicide to avoid being conquered when the persians invaded the city in 546 bc.

from there we went to patara beach for one hour. we all loved the sea as you can walk out quite a distance before it gets deep. all in all a great day out, the best part of the trip was the local children who come to greet the trucks, they throw water over you, or put the hose pipe on you! in return you throw sweets at them so ensure you have plenty!

BLUE BAY TOUR: as we had quite a large party(the rest being down at the garden hotel) we opted for this tour as we could have a boat all to ourselves. beautiful bays, crystal clear water, sunbathing on the top deck! bliss. the food we had on this trip was by far the best we had all holiday .the food is cooked on the front of the boat, and the rest prepared in a small gulley, how i do not know, but a feast was layed before our eyes.

AQUA PARK: we made our own way to the water park, which is quite small and the slides are only open at certain times, but great fun was had by all. it is quite expensive too ? 8 per person, but if you have a disabled child they get in free. from here we walked into callis itself to watch the sun set, i have never seen a sunset so beautiful. callis beach is not nice, but the sea is clear and nice to swim in.

we had such a great time at this hotel that we are booking again for next year, this is the first time i have ever wanted to do this, but we are not the only ones, we met people there who come back year after year. i hope you enjoy your holiday at the st nicholas park as much as what we all did. oh and one more thing..... the hotel is surrounded by RABBITS, which are quite tame, its a really funny sight when you are sunbathing by the pool and out pops a rabbit.

i hope my comments have been of help. have a good holiday.
Fully approved my me
