All rum should be drunk neat.

Yes my stock reply when someone asked what I wanted in my rum was always another rum you fool :)

The problem is as much as I used to like a good rum or 6 it makes me nasty enough to have an argument in an empty room :( took me years to work out rum = agro every time, now I don't drink at all so its not a problem (y)

I had that problem with whisky, when I was younger. In fact when I was out with oppos it became a bit of a standing joke... if the evening was going a bit too quietly then ply me with a few whiskies and then sit back and wait.
It was one guaranteed method of livening up a night out, but after one particular evenings entertainment landed me with 28 days in Colchester I decided to give up whisky.

Years later I discovered it was only the bottom shelf whiskies that made me punchy, so now I have a very happy relationship with scotch, I'm just careful about the brands I drink.

I never liked whisky, don't even like the smell of the stuff so that wasn't a problem for me, but have a couple of mates who can be trouble after a few, if they are together & a bottle of scotch appears its usually best to retire to a safe distance

I used to hate gin but I like it now.

Funny how tastes can change as we get older.

It is very strange how some types of alcohol affect people but not others.

Had too many glasses of meade at an Irish castle dinner. We went back to a bar afterwards. All I could do was sit on the floor with my back to the bar and laugh n laugh.

Never knowingly tried gin so I cant comment on that in fact I was never much for spirits apart from rum & vodka

Vodka I could drink a surprising amount of with no obvious effect until the lights went out, eg i'm fine, i'm fine, fook its morning :D

One look at or sniff of dark rum is enough get me thinking 'that looks/smells like a bad hangover'.

I used to be a glutton for Vodka and Lime way back. I acquired the taste from a lad on the squadron who wouldn't drink anything else. He was from Cardiff, so that might explain it...!

Wife's a big fan of Mead. The last bottle she bought was Chilli flavoured.....that was just plain weird.

Disagree! Just the merest splash of shrub, takes the bite of it and makes it even more drinkable, and that’s where the problem starts :borra2:.
If you are going to add to rum then only buy the cheaper brands, unless you’re in the Dominican republic, Brugal is dirt cheap but it’s cracking stuff.

it is does result in a bad hangover & in my case a few bruises can also be added to the mix, but I did like the stuff anyway until I saw the light (usually through blackened eyes the next day)

I used to hate red wine, but nowadays I'd choose red over white every time.

Mind you, he was talking about women.

Does anyone remember a mixer called 'Russian'? Sort of cherry flavoured tonic that Schweppes produced around 1977. My pal had written his car off so I was designated driver for quite a few weeks until he got another car, first time he drove he said he would buy me drinks all night....sixteen vodka and Russians in The Tumble Beacon at Tadworth later....we got as far as .the mad mile' on Banstead Downs on the way home before I had to get him to stop the car so I could throw up behind a bus shelter....

Happy days....

I have always said that everyone likes red wine, those that don't just haven't realised yet.

Having said that, I can't remember the last time I had a glass. Tend to stick to decaf Diet Coke these days!
