Given the distance between North Queensland and Adelaide, I am surprised they mentioned that a shark killed someone there 5 days ago.. Hardly seems relevent to me .. But what is interesting is when the last attack in Adelaide happend, some 13 years ago..
I wonder if there is something that triggers the attacks or just shite rotten luck..
I mean, sure, the poor bastard was proly trailing his arm in the water, but 1000's and 1000's of others must have done the same thing in the last 13 years without becoming fish food

Mate,

I work on the theory that if the shark doesn't come into my backyard, I won't go into his....

We have had a couple of late - bloke basically bled to death after being chewed by a little one up here in the tropical north.

The bastard that ate that poor surfer in South Aussie was probably a great white - they are known to frequent that area.

You do NOT mess with great whites.....

Evil bastards....

The news here in Oz is full of it - live crosses to some stupid reporter standing on the beach in question looking for something meaningful to say, apart from the bleeding obvious - a bloke got eaten by a fucking big fish.

Of course, if it was 10 years ago, the bastard thing would probably already be hung up on display. But, nooo, in this PC age there will have to be much (mas) debate B4 something is done.....

There is this great ratbag shark hunter in Oz called Vic Hislop - he is a bloody non-PC legend - some media outlet will no doubt wheel him out for comment - which will be along the lines of kill them all (the sharks, that is...)

Great entertainment!

Especially in this non-ratings period on TV....

Hhhmmm...

Whilst I have been described by some as a 'natural Bhudist' in that I even think twice about killing flies, I wonder what useful function great whites perform that make the tree huggers want to keep them around ?
I seem to remember reading that they are one of the very few creatures on earth that no one can figure out what they are for.. They perform no ecological bridge between species, do not perform meaningful natural cullc.. they simply eat to live and live to eat.

Does anyone know better please ?

Well said Wolfie, if you choose to go messing in the sea, then realise that it is not your natural habitat, and there are things in there that can be lethal, we all know the dangers of sharks, but people still choose to go swimming with them, then when one of them decides it's hungry there is public outcry and everybody wants revenge,

Noooooo. your missing my point a little... I am not suggesting they be got rid of at all, I am simply asking if anyone knows what ecological niche they fill.

As for revenge... bit pointless really.. they would not understand the concept !

They meander along near the top of the food chain, only two creatures dangerous enough to cause them grief ........... humans and dolphins.

They don't get cancer so researchers have found a use for them at least oh and some peeps eat them, bit risky but as they tend to have high concentations of mercury in their systems.

Tip of the day : Don't swim in their kitchen

They will fit into a food chain some where, some other creature/s will eventually eat the shark thus ensuring the existence of them and providing food for another creature and so on & so on, take one of the creatures out of that food chain and that will have a knock on effect to all the other creatures in that chain & probably us (humans). We eat fish, crabs & muscles etc.
That's life :puke:

Well yes, once they are dead they will add a very small ( miniscule ) about to the general ditritus but there does not seem to be any animal that relies on the things being there..

Or look at it another way, shark eats lots of other type of fish if it (shark) wasn't there that type of fish would be over populated, thus eating more than it's normal quota of food, and then some other animal would sufer from lack of food. Every (wild) creature has a role to play in nature some where.
The shark didn't have no feelings for the surfer, just simply as food, the same as us when we eat a cow or a carrot. If anything we have no role to play in nature :dunno:
Right, come here you gorgeous tree :k
