Why is it considered punishment in the forces to peel potatoes? it is actually a task that I don't mind doing, I find it quite therapeutic to the point of being enjoyable.

I was one of those responsible for launching McCain Oven Chips all those years ago - sad but true

Product came over from Canada as catering fries and a small team of us adapted it for retails sales

We started off with sales of just ?20K per month [thats a lot of chips] and at the moment that sector of the marker is reputed to be worth some ?800 million per annum [thats a fecking lots of chips!!!]

Arrrr the good old days when marketing was a true profession

Oven chips can never taste the same as proper chips done in dripping,

Aunt bessies roasts are just a convenience for the idle, how can you compare them to properly prepared taties roasted round the joint?


Smash has improved a lot since I was a kid, however it pales into insignificance alongside my own mashed spuds (behave Robbo I know what you are going to say) as bert says spuds mashed in Lurpak and milk :lick:

I use a stainless steel purpose made spud masher made by Steller (matches my pans) I wouldn't know if Lurpak was cheaper than KY as I've never used or needed KY perhaps you can enlighten me,
