It’ll be interesting to see the outcome now that in cockpit footage of Verstappen during the ‘both running off the track’ incident is available. Personally I think there is some evidence of him deliberately overshooting the corner to run Hamilton wide - the first significant input into, steering for the corner looks late - but I suspect it will remain ‘racing incident’.

Its an important decision, as a five second penalty is apparently the likely punishment and that would cost Verstappen 3 points.

Either way, it’s going to be a riveting end to the season.

I‘ll support Hamilton as an F1 racer because he’s British, although he’s a bit of a cock and would do well to encourage a couple of intelligent friends into his inner circle to ‘advise’ him.

Regardless of his apparently questionable personality, I’d rather see him win the title than Verstappen. That boy is reckless to the point of being dangerous and his antics will cause either the death of himself or, worse, another driver before too much longer if he carries on the way he is. I like to watch balls out, swashbuckling racing but this boy is a f’ing lunatic.

Which in my book makes him a borderline cheat.. Just like Marquez.. The ONLY reason he never got a life time ban is cos he rides for Honda

Verstappen is an extraordinary talent in my book, but I have said it before and I will say it again - he will do anything to win. The ‘both running off the circuit’ on Sunday was borderline at best, but the weaving down the main straight at c200mph when Hamilton was lining him up was ridiculous - he did get a warning for that. Not only obviously dangerous, but it was inevitable he was going to get overtaken (he even said there was no way they could compete with the pace of the Mercedes after the race) so it is easy to draw the conclusion that he would have been happy for them both to go off as it would have benefited him in terms of points.

Russell, another extraordinary talent, joining Mercedes next season will be interesting, feel a bit sorry for Botas as in normal times ie without the ridiculous talent of Hamilton and Verstappen he would be right up there.

Another twist to the amazing end to the season in qualifying.

My interpretation is that Mercedes totally outfoxed Red Bull putting Max in a position where he suddenly realised he had to do something extraordinary (which he looked like he was capable of doing) after thinking he was in a comfortable pole position and ended up stuffing it into the wall in desperation.

Five position grid penalty (assuming new gearbox required) will, assuming Hamilton doesn’t have any mechanical issues, almost certainly be decisive setting it up perfectly for a ‘winner takes all’ final race of the season next week.

Exciting stuff.

I still hate street circuits, not proper racing conditions to my mind.

Good to see Max going into the Mercedes garage and congratulating Hamilton despite the fact that he must have been totally despondent After his massive error that could well cost him the title.

Although he worries me on track that was class, his day will come.

Comments on another site state that Hamilton rammed Verstappen up the arse, that might not be anything to do with the race though.

I’d like to watch the race but I’m buggered if I’m paying what Sky charge. Saying that, if Mrs P is away, I might get a day pass on my Now TV account.

I think either channel 4 or 5 show the full race straight after it finishes.

As long as you don’t have any contact with derek kelly you should be able to avoid knowing the outcome.

More chance of me revealing how many farts I’ve done than knowing the result let alone revealing it.

Max has subsequently received an additional two five second penalties to add the one given during yesterdays race and two points on his drivers licence - a very rare event. Apparently telemetry shows that he did jump on the brakes when ‘giving the place back’ to Hamilton.

He is an unbelievable talent but he is out of control at the moment. Hooe it doesn’t end in tears.

There is a big part of me thinking that he will take out Hamilton on the first corner next weekend as this will give him the title.

Prost v Senna?

If he does take out hamiltwat a la Prost v Senna - would it be justice to award the title to hamiltwat?

I don’t think there is anything in the rules as penalties do not include point deductions as far as I am aware. I would guess that if they haven’t both (Hamilton also got an in race warning for running Max wide) been warned big time about next weekend they will be before the race.

The trouble is that Max seems to genuinely believe that what he does is acceptable. He is in a small minority, and the brake test yesterday was dangerous in the extreme, regardless of whether Hamilton managed the situation well or not.

We all have prejudices based on our upbringing including where we were brought up. Most of us grow out of them when we meet the people against whom we were prejudiced and realise them have the same problems and aspirations as we do. Some seem to revel in talking about what they have suffered. Especially if they have an audience. I do not doubt Hamilton's talent but he was so lucky to have a mentor who not only advised him but helped practically at all stages of his development.
