It’ll be interesting to see the outcome now that in cockpit footage of Verstappen during the ‘both running off the track’ incident is available. Personally I think there is some evidence of him deliberately overshooting the corner to run Hamilton wide - the first significant input into, steering for the corner looks late - but I suspect it will remain ‘racing incident’.

Its an important decision, as a five second penalty is apparently the likely punishment and that would cost Verstappen 3 points.

Either way, it’s going to be a riveting end to the season.

I can hardly wait. F1 used to be good when it took real skill just to keep the car on the track. Now they are stuck to the track with so much downforce. The only interesting bits are the pit stops.

Max has subsequently received an additional two five second penalties to add the one given during yesterdays race and two points on his drivers licence - a very rare event. Apparently telemetry shows that he did jump on the brakes when ‘giving the place back’ to Hamilton.

He is an unbelievable talent but he is out of control at the moment. Hooe it doesn’t end in tears.

There is a big part of me thinking that he will take out Hamilton on the first corner next weekend as this will give him the title.

Prost v Senna?
Michael Schumacher did exactly that to deny Damon Hill his first F1 championship. Given the way Verstappen has conducted himself over the course of the season, I wouldn’t mind betting that if he does something particularly dull he’ll get disqualified.

The trouble is that Max seems to genuinely believe that what he does is acceptable.
Typical Dutch. It’s not always a good thing to generalise but having worked with them for decades, they can be staggeringly arrogant people (and great fun, too).

They’re not bad people, not at all, just arrogant. My gran always said she found them the friendliest people in Europe. Then again, she was German and had a strange sense of humour.

Have you worked with more than a handful of them or is your experience just from social events and holidays?

Three months working on and off in Amsterdam when we acquired a Dutch Bank, a five day jolly and a year working with Ed.

We met up with some Dutch Navy lads in Norfolk Virginia, I’m sure Dylan from the magic roundabout was modelled on one of them.

Apparently it has been made clear to all involved that any deliberate actions preventing a driver from finishing on Sunday will meet sanction by deduction of points.

They've done so knowing full well that's exactly what Verstappen (or his team mate) would be likely to do if Hamilton gets the drop on him.

You think?
Equally Bottas could take out Max.

For what it’s worth I predict a Mercedes one and two…unless there are mechanical issues and/or numerous red flags/safety cars like the last GP that brings huge elements of luck into play. Sadly I expect the latter to be a big feature.

Well done Sky for allowing Channel 4 to broadcast live. Top stuff.
