SPAIN MAY 2003 - JEREZ GP

The Jerez GP takes place on 11th May 2003 and I'm planning on riding the bike down there. I'm flexible on the route, so if anyone is interested please let me know as I need to start booking tickets for the race, making plans, organising secure accomodation, etc.
My initial thoughts are to get the ferry to Santander and ride down through the Picos of Europa and through the region of Castilla & Leon. We could then take in Segovia, Madrid, Aranjuez and Toldeo on the way down. A stop over in Cordoba, then on to Seville and finaly Jerez. After the GP, we could ride back along the coast, i.e. Malaga, Almeria, up to Alicante, Valencia, Barcelona and then Andorra and up through France to Calais. BUT there are various options and numerous routes we could take, including Dover to Calais, Calais to Beziers by train and then ride down to Jerez along the coast, returning through central Spain. As I say, there are a multitude of options, but I reckon we're looking at 14 days minimum and we should leave around 7th, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the route and other potential issues (i.e.scrapper falling in love with a Spanish lady :} ). There is only one restriction though: No MUDland mincers are welcome :t only joking off course :}

Spell error, it's not scrapper, it's scraper, one fights a lot the other makes a mess of your fairing :B don't want people getting the wrong idea aboot me.

Joyboy, I'm happy we now have some dates going as i need to book the time off PDQ. I might book mon 5th onwards, just to be sure and the i can cancel some if need be. When do you have to book your hols by?

2 weeks of fun fun fun i just honestly canny wait. I will get a map from home and check the route and give my tupence worth, but to be honest i dont really care as long as my tyres are sticky. Time to go home now so catch you all soon with a balloon.

Nick, sorry about the spelling m8. I'm self employed so I'm fairly flexible re:

booking holidays, so I might decide to stay a little longer than two weeks if I'm enjoying it.

lets get some numbers and stuff

Nice one reefer... welcome to the fun in the sun holiday of a life time, it should be king excellent.

Joeboy, think we need to get some numbers together, any ideas of others going yet ie your mates ect, so far on this thread we have 3. If we are going to keep the numbers down to say 8 or 10 then think a number register will be usefull.

I need to book time off work v soon so maybe the 6th and then 3 weeks to allow for "just having too much fun and didn't want to come back" factor..... what do you think joe?

Reefer, I'll PM ya my mobile and ya can give me call if you want.....

'cos too much typing involved :}

Scraper, it's looking like they're are 6 peeps interested including you and I, 7 if reefer wants to come (no reason why ya shouldn't mate :dunno: ). I reckon were looking at leaving 6th or 7th. In terms of duration I'm personally gonna be v.flexible on this 'cos ya just never know & it depends on the other group members, but two weeks minimum.

Guys, check out the Jerez official website

www.circuitodejerez.com (english version available). Please look at the ticketing page and the various options and let me know what you think. We do need to order tickets as they sell quickly with over 200,000 in attendance last year. I suggest the VIP tickets @ 55 euro's look VFM, as they appear to be in front of the grid, but I haven't been to this circuit so I'm open to suggestions.

Soz, just a few questions

Fooking forum, just lost what i typed cos i had too many smilies, bollox will have to retype :mad:

Joe have requested 6th to 27th off, will this be enoughtime do you think?
WSB is from 9 may to 11 are we just going for the last day then?

We have enough time if your up for it to meet the others @ Monza for the 18th what do ya recon as an idea? I know you say Spain is better value but if we are away for 3 weeks we could wander out further afield and catch some other countries for variety and meet the Monza bunch...........So where have you been on holiday? Well went to Spain erm South of France erm Italy err then Switzerland, Germany and Belgium.....say no more, just an idea \o/

PS. does refer know you held a street race license :eek: as dont think cruising will be in our vocab.....hee hee

Scraper, I'd imagine 6th - 27th would be sufficient for Spain, however I think you'd be pushing it if you were gonna do Monza too. Personally I wouldn't be interested but others maybe and we don't have to all stick together for the return leg.
The GP (not WSB) race is on Sunday 11th, however I think it would be best to arrive Friday at some stage.
Cruising may well not be in our vocab, however you obviously can't ride the entire lenght of Spain flat out (you'd simply end up totally knackered) especially when you're luggaged up, so there will be quite a bit of steady riding particulary over the longest distances. What we've done in the past is "distance work" locate accomodation, dump luggage and then "out for a blast". Do the tourist bit, mix with the locals, find a decent place to eat, few drinks/smokes and finally sleep. It's important to sleep well when you're covering long distances on a daily basis, otherwise you end up cream crackered :}

Respect to El Samster.

As ya said Dan e & his Dad can always shoot off after the GP. I reckon they could do Jerez to Santander in two days easy or Jerez to Calais in 3 comfortably.

Good news / bad news update !!!

I have some bad news and some good news, depending on your personal point of view. I have this morning (and much to my surprise) been offered a 3-month contract with a large consultancy, starting in March and (as I'm sure you can appreciate) unfortunatley I'm not in the position to turn the contract down on the basis of our trip to Jerez :B However, I have an alternative GP trip to suggest which would be equally interesting, the following month (June); to the Catalunya GP in Spain. The race takes place on 15th June. We could catch a Eurotunnell return for ?128 (ferry is about the same price) and it's about 1,500 km from Calais to Barcelona via Andorra (which is fantastic). It's approximately a 20 hour ride from Calais to Barcelona (allowing for stop's, re-fuelling, etc), so we could depart on 11th/12th (just after the Bash) do a stop over in France and one in Andorra. For those that don't know, the GP circuit is situated outside of Barcelona and there are plenty of "to die for" moutain roads around the area and some great coastal roads too. In addition, my sister lives about an hour down the coast, so she can sort some accomodation for us. It's unfortunate to have to make new plans, but this may suit those of you who haven't done any real long distance stuff before. I'll be going and have no potential work that could get in the way. What d'ya think guys.
