Sneaky Speed Cams

err, I'm confused now!

Not sure where you've gone with this one mate :dunno:

All I was saying was in Ireland you have to display small discs (like the tax disc) for your MoT and Ins as well.

It's "at a glance" confirmation that your car is Mot'd, Insured, and Taxed.

If you were missing one of these three on yer screen, you would be openly broadcasting that you were running illegally. As it stands here, only someone with direct access to the PNC can check. In Ireland it's a legal requirement to declare ON the vehicle. It's so simple!!

My question was, I wonder why we don't do that here?

That is rather stating the obvious Bert, but I'm sure you know what I meant.

Surely you're not saying it's not a good scheme??

Yes, I did know about this. I've got the new system test cert for the car and bike. I believe we will now get a reminder thru the post for the MoT, like the tax one. But we don't get one for Ins though?
is it not called a Renewal Quotation?R#?

also the disc for insurance etc is active in Jersey and Malta and no doubt other places I have not visited... works for them.....:dunno:

I'd agree that something visible for Insurance/MOT sounds like a good idea. Right now looking at any vehicle on the road it's anyone's guess if it's legal.

I believe that with the increased computerisation of the MOT etc all that will happen is that more and more pillocks will make use of disposable "pool" cars that aren't registered. With fewer and fewer police on the roads the chances of 'em getting caught go down.

I don't think....

it matters what system or method of display you introduce - the scum bags that choose to drive cars that are registered in someone elses name with no MOT, tax or insurance will continue to do so.....they don't give a monkeys ass what the legal requirements are cos they aren't in the slightest bit bothered....

Until the penalty for being caught is sufficiently severe instead of the 3 month ban and a poxy fine they will just carry on, business as usual.

I don't see an easy or obvious way around catching these tossers....

Agree with FB - didn't stop cos they weren't insured.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......

Bert if that's what they were doing then fair dues to 'em.

To me it looked like a sneaky speed cam.

Could indeed have been ANPR - it was a largish grey box with a camera lens sticking out the front - sitting on one of the cops shoulders when I saw it. They had a tripod thingy on the ground. Didn't look like it was hooked up to any other equipment at the time.

It was just before lunchtime - I supposed they were just taking it apart or setting up.
Sitting on the cop's shoulder? Sounds like a bloody rocket launcher  . And I use that road quite often.:h

Typical fine for No Insurance is under ?500 locally

20 year old driving a ?395 Orion 1.6i - second year of driving and 1 years NCB

Insurance Premium - 3rd party only - ?1400 - living in Rugby

So regardless of the points issue, you could get nicked twice and still be in pocket

Yeh but if displaying was a requirement then every bod could spot and report it increasing the chances of stopping the beggars. There's nothing you can do at the moment 'cause looking at the vehicle doesn't tell you if it's insured?

ANPR are NOT armed in Cheshire, that was an ARV and he was using laser with camera to record speed offences. Be careful out there. R#?

So it really was a sneaky speed cam then...... no way any poor sod wud have any chance of seeing them from the road.

So clearly not visible deterrent then - just a money collection excercise.

Dual carriageway with good vis/road conditions. Don't know what the accident record is but at that time of day traffice was light...... oh of course, light traffic + higher speeds = more wonga!!
