Sneaky Speed Cams

Yesterday I was crossing over the A55 by Chester Business Park. I was on the roundabout junction on top of the dual carriageway passing across the A55.

I stopped in the queue of traffic alongside a traffic car setting up/taking down their speed trap kit on the bridge.

As I sat looking a few things "clicked" - the cops were armed - must be part of a new get tough policy on speeding!!

The other thing was the position of the speed trap. They were looking at the rear of passing traffic - not the facing lane. The roundabout they were on means that they were not in any way visible to the traffic they were clocking. There's absolutely no way anyone travelling away from them could see them as they approached - the only way would be to look in the rear view mirror as you went under the bridge - who does that (almost forgot, Bertie does keep twisting his head up to look at the sky round the cat & fiddle)

Just thought that was particularly sneaky - also thought that with view exceptions speed traps were supposed to be visible???

Any poor sods caught out yesterday won't have a clue until the NIP drops through the door.

It may have been 'Automatic Number Plate Recognition' or ANPR rather than speed detection. ANPR sites can be mobile as well as fixed. Just a thought!

Hi DD
The plod are regularly at that spot I've seen as many as half a dozen cars plus bikes. The Vehicle Tax Twots sit with their van just after the turning joins from the Wirral as you are heading towards RAF Sealand and to cap it all off there is also the VOSA depot at the end of the M56.

Talk about overkill.... :bandit:

D + D - there are also a few unmared cars up and down the end of the M53/A55. I use it regularly. Will keep my eyes on the roundabout though ( I presume you mean the end of the A483 coming out of Chester with the Business park on your left).

They'll hopefully be arresting wanted criminals, and catching stolen cars.
I guess this is why they're armed

Don't knock the 'Automatic Number Plate Recognition' Boys

They're looking for uninsured/untaxed vehicles

Don't forget that if YOU get banjoed by an uninsured cage - you gonna struggle to see a single penny - even if you have "Uninsured Loss Cover"

A couple of weeks ago I spotted a series of old Beemer Plod bikes doing the rounds

Pulled up to find out what was going off - explained 'Automatic Number Plate Recognition' setup looking for uninsured cages

Sure enough 2 minutes later old BMW was stopped.........

Woman driver was [approx] 8 months pregnant.......
Young toddler without a seat belt in the back...............
Tatooed Fookwit boyfriend passenger - sat in the cage dring a bottle of Newcastle Brown

"No fecking Insurance" !!!

Now how stupid is that?

Funny thing was - PLOD got her out the car and TFW boyfriend restarted the car to keep the "aircon" going

After 15 minutes the BMW pissed all it's radiator over the road - completely bolloxed

PLOD insisted that the car be moved off the highway and onto a car parking area so HE drove the car - bless - one fooked motor

Nicked-ones were told to get a lift/catch the bus............

I was chatting to PLOD for a few minutes........

He said "Must go......ride to the end of the road - wait 2 mins - turn back"

"Why?" being a nosey phooker

"Cos if they get back in that car once I've gone...........they're in seriously deep "doo doo"

Stood back and watched...........sure enough, once PLOD had buggered off.....

Back into the now-knackered BMW and tried to drive off

Now what's those nice blue flashing lights doing!!!!!

End of rant!

Yep, that's the spot....

Coggy - if you're right great - but the guys on the bridge wern't doing any "arresting" they were just operating the gear. If they're catching the bad guys it would have to be someone else "feeling the collars".

OK Bert gotta agree with you if it keeps the number of uninsured, untaxed sheds off the road.

Thinking about it again I suppose they are stopping all those scouse tw*ts entering gods own country....

Bert if that's what they were doing then fair dues to 'em.

To me it looked like a sneaky speed cam.

Could indeed have been ANPR - it was a largish grey box with a camera lens sticking out the front - sitting on one of the cops shoulders when I saw it. They had a tripod thingy on the ground. Didn't look like it was hooked up to any other equipment at the time.

It was just before lunchtime - I supposed they were just taking it apart or setting up.

Round here there's an ANPR car and about four bikes operating together.
They can do unanswered warrants as well as stolen cars.
And uncollected fines I think...

How do they know what people are uninsured :dunno: :dunno:

How does ANPR help here with this :dunno:

If they were on the lee side of a visual obstruction, running ANPR, and they were armed, I don't think they were looking for motoring offenders!! More like looking for some crook they thought might be coming their way, or surveillance, or evidence gathering, or something similar.

One thing's for sure - they ain't gunna tell you what they're up to either! Put yourself in their shoes. You're on a specific operation that requires you to be armed. A passer-by asks you what you're up............. so you tell him the truth right?? Yer, right!!

Cos the insurance companies now have to send a return to the DVLA telling them who is insured... If your vehicle doesnt list as being insured... tugged by the fuzz is the result.

Is that right? Well, that's a good idea then.

How long they been doing that??

Dunno why they don't use a scheme like that in Ireland, where you have to display screen confirmation of your Ins and MoT as well as your tax. It's then instantly visible whether you're legal or not.

Been doing it for about 2 years. The MOT is also going computerised this year with a direct link to the DVLA so plodicus will know if your vehicle is MOTted or not. So just cos you know Fred in the MOT centre and he always lets you off cos yer engines chucking out loads of shite on the exhaust emmision test wont happen next time will it !!!! The big problem being is that it takes away any flexibility that the tester had ..."Ah right its Spinster Jones's car and she only uses it to go to church on Sunday and Tescos on Friday never does more than 600 miles a year at a max speed of 25.9mph so it will be OK till next year" or in my case "its a 40 year old bike, I've rebuilt the engine, the gearbox, rewired it and not only does it look OK but its managed a 20 mile ride to the test centre" so it must be OK.......

Not at 1/2 mile away approaching at 50mph
That is rather stating the obvious Bert, but I'm sure you know what I meant.

Surely you're not saying it's not a good scheme??

Yes, I did know about this. I've got the new system test cert for the car and bike. I believe we will now get a reminder thru the post for the MoT, like the tax one. But we don't get one for Ins though?

It's a brilliant scheme mate

......

I pay Road Fund Licence, insurance and MOT on 4 vehicles to keep "legal" on the road

OK 4 vehicles. some may say is excessive BUT I pay my dues and it costs a fortune

Why should some Fookwit drive on the same road having paid nowt?

If they knock someone over or have an accident etc etc etc

As it happens a young 18 lass was killed last Saturday early evening in a hit and run on a main dual carriageway in Derby

No dount "hit and run" cos they didn't have any insurance

I have to drive twice a day past the flowers that are at the side of the road and it makes me choke a lump in my throat twice a day [no flaming please]

God only knows what the family and the lasses fiance must be going through?

I say again............probably hit and run cos they didn't have any insurance
