You may remember I had a nasty off last July.Bust ribs, punctured lung and generally battered all over.
It was a nice warm sunny day no visible crap on the road,Stan,F.B.and I were enjoying a nice little bimble from Newtown to Llandovery on the A483
A right hander which we know very well approaches I get every thing set up nicely Stan and Bert are just behind so have a ring side seat of what happens next
I tip the bike in,then mid corner the tyres just let go the bike and me slide then hit the apex of the corners kerb stone I black out at this point. Stan says we got flipped in the air and land 20 yds in a ditch.
The road surface is SMA for those of you who ain't heard of it it's the smooth black shit that's being used all over Wales :dunno: about the rest of the country.
My neighbour who is a keen biker works as a highway road inspector he tells me the way they test the surface is called a scrim test this involves pushing a wheel into the surface then turning it at an angle
They've been having problems with surfaces failing this test and they are now finding it's staying slippery for up to 3yrs
The local authorities put up a sign saying slippery road surface
so that's ok then init
Yesterday whilst out for a ride we stopped at road works where they had put this shit it's been down a week or so
Twisting the sole of my boot on it felt waxy and slippery
I know SMA has been well publicised in the press but thought I'd warn you guys
If it's black and smooth take care out there
