Psycho's - Scott oil to front sprocket

I've been thinking about this, and I don't like it.

Sure, it's neater than having the pipe run along the swingarm, but does it actually lube the chain effectively?

If you drip the oil onto the rear sprocket at 7 o'clock, like Scottoiler say, then the oil is on the inside of the chain, and has half a revolution of the rear sprocket to get pushed into the chain.

If you drip the oil onto the outside of the chain, just before it goes onto the front sprocket, then it'll just get flung off straight away, surely? The front sprocket is a lot smaller, too.

The only way I can see lubing it at the front working reasonably well is if you drip onto the inside of the chain after the front sprocket, and hope that it stays on the chain until it goes around the rear sprocket.

How well, though?

due to the diameter of the front sprocket the peripheral forces are less than that of the rear.

I can't agree with this. The smaller sprocket means that the chain changes direction much more quickly, so the oil is more likely to get flung off, not less.

What about just after the front sproket, i.e. underneath, still out of sight and has more time to seep in. Just need it far enough back so you can do the priming.

There again Scottoiler website says the rear sproket face should be used to deliver the oil and therefore more evenly spread that dropping oil direcly onto the chain - I guess this offers the least splash and that's why they recommend installing it that way.

Lubing at the front sprocket does work... the only problem is to keep the chain suficiently oiled it is a little messier than oiling at the rear.. ie you get a bit of fling and it drips a little when on the stand .. but the chain is suficiently oiled..

someone should try my double ty wrap method just before the rear sprocket, on the bottom chain, on the end of a scottoiler.... I know it will work well h1d1ng2
