how do you start a thread..:bang:

click the new thread button at the top of the page!! LOL :k

cheers smix

heres the last one I did..

Thats lush too.

I really like the 'bendy' swingarm of the second one. And Big Birdie with the single arm :-0):-0)

That third one - what is it? s'got a teeny exhaust for a bike that doesn't look that small!

Oh- and if you need info about the BB - chuck questions up in the help section. there's a few knowledgeable folks on here! :-0)

cheers smix...will do...I'm struggling with the loom at the moment...but thats a different thread!

the last one is a fireblade...
same arm thats now in the bird.
had a ZX10r front end...thats gone into the spondon.

I only started doing this kinda stuff after riding to Assen on the blade and being half crippled with a bad back all the way there and back.

once you start modding you can't stop...its a disease!:neenaw:

LOL but you have to have the skills to start! I don't sadly! Trying to work out how to achieve the lights I want on mine, but with minimal knowledge of electrics/LEDs, its taking a while!!!!!!!

Keep with the photos, its great to see!

Nice... What was the VFR swingarm like to fit? I've seen something similar on a US website, but your shock & linkages look a bit more OEM in fitting, which is more in line with what I'd like.

Yep, I too love that swingarm. In the pictures there is no chain yet fitted. Do you know if the front sprocket is inline with the rear or is a modification required?

Single sided swingarms not only look the nuts but that VFR design has the easiest chain adjustment I have ever used on a bike and wheel removal a doddle too, oh and cleaning, oh and.................. you get the idea, I like em

Its the same arm that was in my blade. to make it fit a blade you just need a 20mm spacer on the swingarm bolt/shaft

the bird uses the same bottom end castings at the back of the engine so its exactly the same.

the only thing thats different to the Blade is that the Bird suspension is central, whereas the blade unit is offset.

so,...drill the frame and make some spacers...a coupla hours and it was in. chain run is fine ( chain will be going on soon!)

I also put a 6mm spacer in...I think that...and the 16" front wheel might quicken things up a bit!

coupla pics! ( anyone noticed I'm a cetified pic whore?!?h1d1ng2)

wrong!...shock mounted central...you can see the gap on the LHS of the spindle...

right!...shock moved over..

spacers made ( these were early test versions!)

nice n central!

Hi mate Really like what your doing keep it up...Built a few fighters myself from the frame up before i decided to retire to the bird. But as you say once you start to mod its hard to stop always look at the bird and think mmmmm if i cut that there and moved that there and so it goes on but trying to leave the grinder on the shelf and just ride it ..Good luck with it its looking good...one thing i will say the bird seems to be a little fussy around the exhaust so you may find running problems with the pipes..I did a little cut and shut on mine a few weeks ago and couldn't get it to run right what ever i did it ended up in the failed project bin in the garage :-0)

I'll get it on a dyno and see what happens...not too bothered about ultimate speed ( no fairing!)... but I hear what you're saying about the pipes..

I'll sort that once I get the bloody thing in one peice:-:

Oh good I now have an 'excuse' :-0) Can you confirm that it is long lasting, I'm worried that one day I will head out to the garage and think 'perhaps I should be using the machinery to build a model train'.

Nice work by the way!

its definately long term mate...you find yourself signing up to loads of forums to discuss the problem with like minded victims....

it starts with a thought....then into picking up an angle grinder....then its downhill from there

you end up with a unique bike tho...its all yours. even if its a crockoshite...its all yours:-:

ok...been some time...so here's whats happened.
not much actually!
Project Dolebird...the spend available at the moment is...er...next to nowt!.

I need to buy an ignition switch. but can't justify it at the moment...life sux!

so...I might be hotwiring it

last update saw the engine in the frame and up on its own legs..
I had a box of wires but no idea where anything went!...kinda like a jigsaw puzzle with no box lid.

so I joined this forum..got some really good info and downloaded the service manual. (cheers guys!)

long story>short...

The engine carbs airbox coils and everything in the main engine area is in...

everything is plumbed and wired up...and ready to be butchered at the front and rear ends.

need a subframe welding...and sorting the lights etc at the front. and sort an oil cooler mount bracket

kinda coming together now!
all thanks to having no friggin job!

lots of engine stuffed in..looks kinda ugly but brutal
I can see the finish line...wanna ride the frikkin thing!

This is the second 'fightered' bird I've seen. I LOVE THEM. Yours looks awesome with the single side arm, and the pipes down to that stubby exhaust - mmmmmmmmmmmm

Tell us when you go riding - would be ace to see it IRL :yo:

See - i've been wanting to make mine something different for ages. Keep trying to settle on a paint job to do, but maybe its time to do something completely different!!!!!!!!!!!!
