Yep I too have to sgree

last time I went to the Cat and Fiddle run we pulled in at the pub and there was a copper on his Pan.

We all had a chat with him and a sit on his bike ( fooken heavy with all the gear ) his only words of warning were:

take it easy lads I`m fed up with picking bits of bikers up, watch out for the car drivers gawping at the senery so go steady and enjoy the day out.

he seemed genuanly intrested in the different bikes we had., would be a shame if they got rid of them.

We`ve got some nice bike cops round here. They`re usually holed up in Hein Gerickes having a cuppa and are friendly enough.
They ran a bike safe week here in Brum a couple of years ago and you got to have a bike cop follow you round the roads and give you tips to improve your town riding. Much prefer them to the t*theads in cars that you can see eyeballing you as you do a nice bit of centrelining. IMO keep the traffic cops!!

(I know that was a bit off the thread but hey what the heck!!)

What is the legal position with the Operation Roadblock that the N Wales police were using last year. The police are stopping all motorcycles in a laybye and were making them wait for up to 1 hour before having the bike checked out. One guy in MCN was complaining he had been stopped four times over the course of a weekend making a grand total of well over 3 hours.

Surely the police can only detain you for a reasonable time especially if a) your bike is completely legal and b) you werent commiting a traffic offence. What action would be taken if several guys decided they had all had enough i.e. after say ten minutes and just rode off.

Mmmm

Firstly .. I disagree with them doing that.
Thay should only stop you for a reasonable time. ( BUT THEY CAN STOP YOU)

What I SUGGEST is.

!. Be very polite. and try to not form large groups when 'discussing' things with an officer.
2. ask how long its going to take and tell the officer you need to be in a certain place by a certain time ( a reasonable request).
3. When its getting past a joke... ask the same officer ( having noted his / her collar number) if you can go as you feel that you have complied with all requests and can see no reason to stay.
If they say you must stay, ask if you are under arrest.... note the time ( quite clearly and over the top ) and if they say no. tell them you intend to go in say... 5 mins.. if they say yes... they must caution you, tell you the reason for arrest, and convey you to a designated police station, causing as little delay as possible...( always supply details when requested. its a good excuse to arrest)

** at point 3.. they will most likely allow you to go..
If they do hold you for what you consider to be an unfair time ( and what a normal person in the street would consider unfair) COMPLAIN. In person at a police station. dont be put off by the person on the desk. and keep records of time stopped, time allowed to go, and who you spoke to each time.

Hope this helps.

The main thing is.. stay cool, calm, and polite. record facts, get complaints in. then the force involved may become more ' caring' to all.

I personally hate the way SOME officers / forces treat people ( not just Bikers) and its that attitude that spoils it for the gooduns.
