Nice bike Sk!p (and the best colour too :yo: )

Ref tyres: rogerc is spot on, Avon Storm rear/Viper front is bloody awsome (and the tyre pressure is right too)
Cheers mate! :-0)

Thanks for the tip on the tyres - will remember that when these 021s wear out - I ride fairly hard so what might I expect mileage wise from them? They have about 800 miles on them so far?

Nice to see that the 'Bird is still trackday capable - have done quite a few at Snetterton over the past 4 years since I passed and one at Donington - would like to do Brands at some point but was a bit worried that the 'Bird is a bit lardy for it. Any tips on setting the bike up for the track? Is this 6mm spacer thing as "must have"??

First day on it today as "my bike" - it was cold this morning! Going to put lots of miles on this evening - cant wait! :yo:

Comment on the Storms:

I've recently converted to these after using BT 020's since the originals wore out.

Now covered a reasonable mileage ont he Storms and would agree that they are good tryes.

Seem to be wearing well.

Biggest difference that I notice is that with the BT's the bike seemed to tip over into the bends much quicker.

The storms (to me) seem to require a little bit more effort, suspect it must be the profile or something :dunno:

With either I've found no handling problems and indications so far are (just like others found) the storms seem likely to last a little longer.

Wet or dry both types of tyre gave me no problems.

If the storms continue as they have throughout their useful life I'll probably stick with them .. but I'd have no problems going back to BT's if the tyre chappy didn't happen to have storms when I needed tyres.

To me it seems to be tyre pressure which is the key .. keep that right at 42psi and sound handling follows

Dunno how long they last as I've only just fitted 'em TBH I'm not too bothered as the feedback from them is awsome

Well even with the old Azuros on the Bird she scared a fair few Sportsbikes around Mallory so she won't be too 'lardy' around Brands(gotta do BH myself soon). As for the suspension, the spacer will speed up the steering, allowing the bike to tip into the corners a bit faster. It'll also stop the bottom of the fairing hitting the deck quite so quickly. If your serious about TD's then (the Bird is the wrong choice as a TD bike--------- just kidding ) you'll need to sort out the front springs as a matter of urgency as they are way too soft as standard even before they have worn out (if it's done over 15k they are ready to change) Jaws's uprated springs with std weight oil work a treat for me (12 1/2 stone kitted up) and the std rear shock will be past its best by about 20k, again Jaws's rebuilt std ones have good reviews if you're on a budget but I've got an Ohlins fitted which is excellent.

All great stuff to hear - cheers! The brakes feel a bit woolly on my bike but the pads are nearly new - the hoses are the originals so I did wonder about changing them which lead onto whether to de-link or not which lead onto changing the fork springs - doh! c7u8

Did about 60 miles on it last night - you really need to have your wits about you trying to rev it hard on a twisty B-road! I found the handling not too bad at all - its certainly not as lardy as I expected it to be - you can feel the weight when trying to change direction quickly at speed but its all good fun - after two naked middleweights (SV650 and Z750) its nice to have a change!

I suppose it depends, a new set of braided lines is about (if not over) ?200. But I would like to keep the linked brakes, so I have to save up

You can just put braided hoses on the front hydraulic circuit, firms up that right lever a treat, and leave the rest alone ;-) (much) cheaper and retains the linked system. Should you desire later you just replace the rest of hoses as & when you fancy (assumig you still want the linked system.

The other thing you will want to (must) do is ebc HH pads.

Ps the original blue is the best blue (I'm not biased though) :-0) R#?
