Hi

I've made a few posts to the forum, but thought I'd better say 'hello' properly...

I swapped from a VFR750 to a Blackbird that I bought from a friend... it's a '99 FI model that's now done 78k miles. Have to say it's a great bike!

So far I've been to France for a weekend on it, and I've just got back from a fantastic weekend in Wales, as well as regular weekend ride-outs and commuting to work.

Good to be part of the forum - there's lots of useful info and good advice!

Thanks

Chris

Not yet a bird owner!

Hi to you all,as the title say`s i am not a `BIRD` owner yet but a `VIFFER`owner(VTEC-A3)and i am looking to change in the near future.I am just looking for some general advice really about owning, riding and running a `BIRD`.For me to get a `BIRD` i am going to have to go backwards in age a bit i think but that does`nt worry me,probably to a `97-2000`model,is there anything to look out for on those years. Most off my riding is local stuff and often with a pillion,so is it a good everyday bike rather than just a tourer, are the lights good(i do a lot of nighttime riding)and finally what is the cost of running one like(my VTEC is quite costly compared to my old CBR6F).Thanks glynbo.

180?

hey there, I've just joined, so say hi if you're passing.....

any P*** taking of me and I'll do my talking on the road and not to the moderator...

.:f I ain't afraid of 180mph....are you?!?

Managed 168 (ish) up the DC near us and the wind almost had me off the bike and I have no idea how they ride the TT at 180+ when the roads seem so narrow at that sort of speed, my be they had a fear or self preservation instinct extraction at
some stage . anyway he may have meant Km/h ?

Hello !! Newbie alert !!

I'm not actually a blackbird owner.... yet.
A little about myself:

- Divorced father of two
- Unemployed for last 6 years Sob !!!!
lol.gif
lol.gif

- Fund my hobbies with a little work on the side
- Should be able to make the grade as a Blackbird owner later this year
- Think USA should keep it's fuckin nose out of other peoples' business
- Sponging immigrants should be publically flogged. This might deter a few of them

Etc Etc

Ay up a man after me own 'art !

The Bird is quicker but cant do U turns like a BMW R1200RT can thats for sure, nor will it keep you as warm dry and comfy at 130 mph either, on the the other hand , if smiles are what you are after............ The bird does tend to get you into trouble with the police man with greater enthusiasm ..... Think Air brakes and parachute are hidden in mine somewhere. May be after the VF gets is new set of clothes on it might stand half a chance , after all Jeff Johnson did win a TT on one back in the day ...

180?

Errrr Paul... Please let me know when and where you wil be available mate..
And also let us know what mods you have done to get a genuine 180 out of your bike.. :p

Mine does top of 170 in standard fit its just a carb fed BB and after that its me that gives up not the bike because I offer way too much wind resistance, and bulk , my helmet is trying to drag my head off the front bit is digging into my nose the the road seems too narrow and the windscreen aim the air flow directly up the slight crack of my visor into my eyes which water so much I am almost blinded by it and I seem to be too tall for the bike and act like a big air brake.
It gets up to 40 by just crossing a junctions, passes 70 as if it were 40 and 100 soon looks like 120 then its a steadier climb to the top of my ability and I give up and throttle back just as the end of the three mile dual carriageway comes into view . No idea how people actually race against each other at that speed .. it is way beyond me ,,,,

honda heritage

My love for Honda s goes back to my first bike a CB100N , But my next big bike some 35 years later was one of these Geoff Jognson won the Isle of Man 750-1500 production TT 1985 on an unmodified bike thrown in at the last minute because his ace bike failed .

They are not the prettiest of race colours and despite the bikes weight , some 548 lb he still clocked over 102 MPH .....and got it off the ground.....
I really hope I can get mine up to to performance this year and get a race paint job done on it .
top speed ought to be over 150 and as the brakes are far from Brembo class I wont be ding that sort of speed on it despite its Herritage ,
The front wheel is 18 inch shod with 100 80 10 and 140 70 17 on the back .
The tyres vary each year I have changed them dunplops were not impressive and currently it is shod with Michelin road pilots
I am currently trying to get hold of a better sounding Exhaust , the carbs need setting up and it is having some work done on the forks, valves and timing around Easter Time

The Blackbird seems so strange after lugging such a huge lump of a bike about , like going from Landrover to Lamborghini . Still thee is something special in the big bike.... and for only 19000 miles fom new when I got it I suppose it s just about run in now at 30,000

Given enough ducking down and long enough run you should see over 180 on a GPS on yours @tu*
Mind you, if you anything like me it will be goinf SLOWER after the Christmas feast !! 8rfl@

Newbie.

Hi all,

Yet another new Blackbird owner. Purchased mine a few months ago with 35k on the clock.

Its a 1997 model (black) and come with loads of paper work so someone looked after it alot, but I doubt it was the chap I purchased it from. Luckily he only had it a year.

It has had the wheels and rear spring powder coated gold, stainless down pipes, braided hoses all round, stainless pro-bolt kit, bar risers, footpeg lowering kit, Data tagged and a spy ball alarm (which I will probably remove as the reviews arent good) oh and finally a B.I.R.D STICKER ON THE TAIL PIECE!

I live in Sittingbourne, Kent along with 2 mates who have also just purchased BB's as well. If any of you read this current edition of Practical Sports bike which has a buying guide to the Blackbird, then you will have seen my TZR125 featured in a 6 page article. My claim to fame.
