Yes, I agree, the lines of the bike look much better with the Honda hard luggage compared to, say, Givi. I would guess that it is a well built as Givi. Will you fit a top box?

An expensive hobby for sure, but worth it!
Hi Nelson,

Had the hard luggage fitted, looks good wiv the panniers in place, but shi* wiv just the scaffolding showing. Think I might be spending time changing the back end back to 'standard' when not touring. :bang:
Definately decided NO top box!!!

Hi Bodmin,

My concern with hard luggage has always been what the bike looks like without the boxes in place.

For the couple of tours I do each year (with pillion) I've used a Givi maxia topbox (with monorack) and a tankbag. The monorack itself is very easy to remove afterwards. I guess a full wingrack/Honda rack will take a little longer to remove, but worth the effort to improve the looks.

Dunno if you've seen the 20,000 mile service thread in the 'Help' section. Part of it deals with copper greasing the two upper most socket bolts connecting the front fender to the forks. These are prone to seizing. Worth a read and worth doing in my opinion.

Hey, you're only a bit younger than me!

You must remember the Swizzels lollies. Two coloured hard things that got darker as you ........................(tries to think of an alternative word here).............. covered them with saliva. Mega lollies are just bigger versions (but much nicer)

Edit - I've just read that through..............
DUFUS - Shut it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Nelson,

Thanks for the tip. my main area of concern wiv removing the frame for the luggage is that the rear indicators have had to be re positioned, and will need to be disconnected and reconnected each time. not sure of the long term effect on the wiring connections. :dunno:

Just a couple of pics of my new pride and joy.
I keep looking at the pickies of your Bbird, and tell me, are the front suspension legs collapsed in the crate as the front looks very low ?

I can see what you mean there. Looking at it again, I think maybe it's an optical illusion type thing due to the screen and mirrors not being fitted, also the angle of the photo.:dunno:

You both gave me a fright there... even dropped me bacon butty... but checked, and all seems ok on the bike, so must be just the angle of the photos (I'll be paranoid about this for months now).

I meant, are they collapsed on delivery and are oiled and torqued before the screen goes on, not that theres something wrong

The wiring is no problem, it's a clip fastening connector which easily connects/disconnects. You just have to feed the wires to the indicator stalks out/through from under the rear of the bike - once you undo the indicator fixing bolt and metal bracket inside the plastic.

There's enough space (just) to feed the wires without having to put any pressure/twisting on the wires.

I have a Givi wingrack and often remove/replace it without a problem. With a bit of practice it takes less than ten minutes.:yo:

I'd be interested to see if the sides of your tank mark where your legs rub. I find mine picks up marks just from one ride. To keep it looking nice I've had to polish it a fair amount. Am considering fitting a bagster tank cover to protect it, but I can't help thinking this defeats the object a little as it doesn't look as nice as the painted tank.

I also find the tail unit marks from where my boots rub at the point just behind the forward-most fastener (above the heel plates). Also watch out for your pillion's boots rubbing on the tail unit further back. Dunno if Honda have sprayed the later bikes with cheaper paint, but I certainly wouldn't paint the Forth Road Bridge with it!

Hi Nelson,

After my trip this week, i spent this morning cleaning my bike. as regard for the tank, everything seems ok at the moment, still nice and shiny. As for the tail unit, again no problem so far, although i did notice that where I have had trouble straddling the bike with the luggage box's attached (thanks to an old knee injury) i've scraped some paint off the right hand luggage box with my boot..:xm sh1tehppns ...
